The New Economics
http://willhamill.com/2013/11/06/the-new-economics
A few months ago I read The New Economics. By W Edwards Deming and I’ve been taking a few notes here and there to try and collect my thoughts afterwards. W. Edwards Deming. Is considered the father of management science and is partially responsible for the revolution in Japanese industry in the 20th Century, and the focus on ‘building quality in’ rather than quality by inspection, so I was interested to see what kind of principles I could learn and potentially apply in a software development context.

An open source site for systematic reviews. June 20, 2013. Today saw the launch of a fab website called Randomise Me. That “is a platform that enables individuals and organisations to run trials of varying sizes.”. The site is great because it enables anyone, anywhere to perform RCTs – for free. As far as I’m concerned, breaking down the barriers to ‘academic’ things like this is something to be applauded. De-duplication of references – there will almost certainly be multiple copies of the same pap...

Craft, design and make ideas. September 3, 2012. From Friday 31st – 2nd September I attended EMFcamp. 8211; a festival for hackers and makers. It’s a self organised festival with lots of workshops and talks, quite similar to an unconference with everyone being able host workshops or events. The majority of people were part of Fablabs. Just imagine the creativity and super inspiring talks! Amongst the talks I really enjoyed were ‘ Feed Toby. Such a shame the festival is planned to be only every second yea...
