Newfoundland Nature Projects: Everybody's Favorite | Warblers & Song Birds
http://newfoundlandnatureprojects.blogspot.com/2014/06/everybody-favorite-warblers-song-birds.html
Tuesday, 3 June 2014. Everybodys Favorite Warblers and Song Birds. Over the last few weeks it has been noted that almost all songbirds are behind schedule on their northward migration to Newfoundland. The last few species are now showing up such as Redstarts, Magnolias and Mourning Warblers. However the flycatchers like Yellow-bellied and Alder have not yet arrived in numbers, I believe only one or two YB flycatchers have been spotted. Black Throated Green Warbler. Thursday, 25 April 2013. The slow return of spring and a nest box update! Also Brad and I were able to get out over the weekend in the rainy weather to check out some of our boxes. Although there are none in our boxes yet, Keith Brown at butterpot park has a male owl hanging around one of his boxes so, now we wait to see if he will find a female! Below is a short video we took on the lower salmonier line while checking boxes. Junco Taken at Nevilles Pond. One of many Wigeon at Nevilles Pond. Over the las...

I haven't yet added up how many species of birds i seen in the five days i spent in the valley but i am sure its more then I've ever seen in five days. Many first time birds like the Bobolink, Northern Parula, Winter Wren, and Bank Swallow. The Codroy is a place like no other here in Newfoundland. I am determined to return each spring from here on. Newfoundland Nature Projects: Spring arrives at Neville's Pond
http://newfoundlandnatureprojects.blogspot.com/2015/05/spring-arrives-at-nevilles-pond.html
Wednesday, 13 May 2015. Spring arrives at Neville's Pond. Tree Swallows fight over nest boxes. Taken in 2014. The one thing that always marks the arrival of spring for me is seeing a Yellow-rumped Warbler. After many months of not seeing a single warbler it sure is exciting to see a flash of yellow among the trees. That quick flash of yellow is surely a YR warbler. Here are a few more images from the last few weeks. Enjoy! Black-capped Chickadee checks out a nest box. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Newfoundland Nature
Wednesday, October 12, 2011. The Moon and Jupiter. It is an amazing night out there. The 4 degrees C is a little crisp, but with no wind it is just perfect for a walk. For the past half hour or so I've been walking under the brilliant moon. If you're out there tonight or in the next couple of days look for Jupiter. It is the really bright object sitting just below and to the left of the moon. Fall is a great time for star-gazing. The Sky and Telescope. Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Let's hope for a good one!

Field Notes from an Evolutionary Psychologist
Field Notes from an Evolutionary Psychologist. Wednesday, September 21, 2011. My oldest Newfie made herself at home on a slight hill in the backyard today, on a bed of dead grass straw, stuffing her face with prunes. The slight hill? I'm pretty sure it's made of years of fallen plums. Her buried 'bones' I guess. My crotchety old Newfoundland lounging in a straw pile eating prunes. I quit my day job. Friday, August 19, 2011. I am thinking about quitting my job. At this point though, the costs exceed the b...
