Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes. And back to Nebraska. Home again. A blizzard closing in from Kansas and Colorado. Friends and family. Too much to do before Christmas. Realizing how far it really is between Namibia and Nebraska. No really good way to close out this blog. Maybe a toss backward to some favorite blogs of the year. A year in review:. January: Kelly's report on shopping. February: Larkin locked in the men's room. March: We tackle our first camping trip with the Bates family.

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes: Trip to Caprivi and Vic Falls

http://namibiafulbright.blogspot.com/2009/07/trip-to-caprivi-and-vic-falls.html

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes. Trip to Caprivi and Vic Falls. The trip to the Caprivi and Vic Falls was something we'd looked forward to since we got here- and it marks the mid-point of our year in Namibia. Here is the blow-by-blow description of the 3000-km (2000 mile) trip with Mom and Dad Powell. We'll make this a family participation blog, with descriptions of the various lodges that we stayed in during the trip. Thanks to African Adventure. We exited the eastern gate with 14 minu...

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes: Birds and houseguests

http://namibiafulbright.blogspot.com/2009/06/birds-and-houseguests.html

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes. I just returned from 4 days in northern Namibia (just west of Etosha NP) at the Ehirovipuka (pronounced Eee-hero-vee'-puka) communal conservancy. I traveled with Uapii, our friend and Polytechnic student, who translated my survey on ecotourism to the OshiHerrero-speaking farmers. We were also joined by Aaron Price, a recent graduate of U. Nebraska, who has just arrived in Namibia for a 6-month stint with World Wildlife Fund. On our Picasa photo site.

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes. A Namibian Preschool Experience. Future Professor School Song. Just this week there were three new students in this class - triplets! The next few weeks will be great fun for me as we have moved into animal themes. This week was reptiles and amphibians. I read a book about snakes and all the students talked about how dangerous snakes are - here in Namibia most snakes can kill you in less than 3 minutes! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes: Over 350 reasons to not like Zambia

http://namibiafulbright.blogspot.com/2009/07/over-350-reasons-to-not-like-zambia.html

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes. Over 350 reasons to not like Zambia. On our recent trip with Larkin's. Parents to Victoria Falls, we went to Zambia. To get to Victoria Falls, you can either select the Zambia side or the Zimbabwe side. Due to the unrest and such in Zimbabwe, we (along with most people these days- tourism is booming in Livingstone) selected Zambia. Ferry crossing, near Kasane. For people coming across the Caprivi. Per US dollar, and the rate at the bank to purchase Kwacha.

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes: The lunch lady and the Sewage Board

http://namibiafulbright.blogspot.com/2009/11/lunch-lady-and-sewage-board.html

Nebraska to Namibia: from Sandhills to sand dunes. The lunch lady and the Sewage Board. Several people, especially folks writing 'newsy' stories about our year here, have asked me what my daily routine is like. Perhaps they wonder if we start the day by walking a mile to get our water. Or, maybe they wonder if we have to collect firewood to cook our meal. Unfortunately, neither of these are correct. Our life in Namibia is very similar to our lives in Nebraska. 1 The lunch lady. In addition, Polytechnic h...

Bates' Adventures in Namibia: September 2009

http://batesinnamibia.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Bates' Adventures in Namibia. Wednesday, September 16, 2009. More on Driving in Namibia. Well, you all know how I feel about driving here since it was the topic of one of my first blog entries. It’s not just the fact that driving is done on the “wrong” side here that makes it difficult to adjust to; it’s all the various and sundry other crazy things that occur as well that contribute to my being a nervous wreck behind the wheel. Because there are zillions of taxis, they can't be avoided either. Please ta...

Bates' Adventures in Namibia. Monday, July 27, 2009. Gus Gets the Gold. All in all, I think he is pleased in retrospect that he spent a part of his break time doing “school work” while most of his classmates were vacationing. He has certainly racked up on the freebies that have been handed out at each level—t-shirts and the like. We’re not yet sure whether or not he’s qualified to attend the National Science Fair, but we’ll know shortly. Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Nando's Peri-Peri Chicken Jambalaya. I woke...
