Fourth Grade Brain: Reading Challenges

http://myfourthgradebrain.blogspot.com/2017/01/reading-challenges.html

I'm doing several reading challenges this year, based off of books that I know I'll be reading anyway. Hah. I've created 6 challenges for my Goodreads challenge group, and found one more on the web that I liked. It was for 2016, but go with it, okay? If you're interested in joining my group, click HERE. Here's the list of challenges I'm doing:. 26 Books (see photo). If you're interested in joining any of them (or all of them! Head on over to the group and ask to join! Fourth Grade Brain: July 2016

http://myfourthgradebrain.blogspot.com/2016/07

My very first Teachers Pay Teachers paid product! It's been a goal of mine for awhile to start selling on Teachers Pay Teachers. My problem? Well, I'm really not very creative or crafty. If someone else has done it, sure, I can replicate (usually). But to come up with something on my own? Nah Not really happening. I MADE MY OWN. Really, this is huge for me. HUGE. Now that the first paid product is out of the way, who knows where I'll go next? Thanks for stopping by! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tips for G...

Fourth Grade Brain: Back to the drawing board...

http://myfourthgradebrain.blogspot.com/2017/02/back-to-drawing-board.html

Back to the drawing board. Sometimes you think that everything is going SO WELL, and then you look at your recent data and realize that it's NOT. You realize that whatever it is you're doing is not working for these kids, and so you go back to the drawing board. The envelopes went FAST! I've started an after-school tutoring group as well. One of my kids decided that we need to call it "The Wonderful Miss S's Math Camp," so there's that. So cute! February 4, 2017 at 5:16 PM. That sounds awesome Emily!

Fourth Grade Brain: Classroom Read Alouds

http://myfourthgradebrain.blogspot.com/p/classroom-read-alouds.html

Books that are just plain awesome to read aloud to your class. This year, we're doing more of a novel study than following the Journeys curriculum to a T. We cover our reading skills and strategies, but also go back and reinforce what we've talked about before. We're also pulling in grammar to our novels. It's amazing when a kid comes up to show you that they found an imperative sentence in their own book. I never want to teach ELA another way! Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The Dark is Rising.

Fourth Grade Brain: September 2016

http://myfourthgradebrain.blogspot.com/2016/09

Classroom reveal (finally.). I finally got around to taking pictures in my classroom. School's only been in session for almost a month. But hey, when you break your foot two weeks before school starts, nothing else goes right for weeks. Without further ado, here are some pictures of my room. I know you're all going to be SO JEALOUS of my carpeted walls. I love hanging student work out in the hall. There really isn't a good place for it in the classroom. This year, we have WANDerful work coming up! Color-...

Tesseract Books: Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

http://tesseractbooks.blogspot.com/2016/10/hollow-city-by-ransom-riggs.html

Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Hollow City by Ransom Riggs. By Ransom Riggs is the follow up to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Though it's a much easier title to pronounce, it's just as peculiar and strange and fascinating as the first one. I can't wait to see the first book turned into a movie and directed by Tim Burton. I usually have to wait until movies come to Redbox, so if you see it first, let me know what you think. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In Madeleine L'Engle's book,.

Tesseract Books: Indie Bound's Summer 2016 List

http://tesseractbooks.blogspot.com/2016/07/indie-bounds-summer-2016-list.html

Friday, July 15, 2016. Indie Bound's Summer 2016 List. As I've mentioned before, Indie Bound is one of my go-to places for book recommendations. They have a new list of adult books every month, and a seasonal list of children and YA recommendations. Here are a few books from their Summer 2016 Kids' Indie Next List. That I've put on hold at my library:. By Kate DiCamillo. I would read anything by Kate DiCamillo. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. And The Magician's Elephant. Reviews of Wolf Hollow.

Tesseract Books: A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel

http://tesseractbooks.blogspot.com/2016/08/a-wrinkle-in-time-graphic-novel.html

Monday, August 29, 2016. A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel. My husband recently started working at a two-year college. While we toured the campus, there was a display outside the library advertising a class called The Graphic Novel as a Literary Form. I really want to take that class! But since, I can't do that, I did the next best thing. I got a library card (one of the perks of being a spouse of faculty member) and checked out the book that I absolutely had to read. Illustrations by Hope Larson.

Tesseract Books: November 2015

http://tesseractbooks.blogspot.com/2015_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 30, 2015. Countdown to Christmas with Books! For the last few years, my family has done a countdown to Christmas with books. I wrap our Christmas books and every day counting down to Christmas we get to open one and read it. Besides the fact that it's fun to open a present every day, it demonstrates to children that books are a gift. Do you have any Christmas traditions surrounding books? What is your favorite Christmas book? Friday, November 27, 2015. How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Tuesday, July 19, 2016. I Really Like Slop! Yes, another Elephant and Piggie book. Why? Because they're always funny and kids love them. I Really Like Slop! By Mo Willems is another good one. My kids are really into gross things right now, so this book is perfect for them. Laughing and saying "ewww! Just seem to go together these days. Tesseract Books: Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo

http://tesseractbooks.blogspot.com/2016/08/raymie-nightingale-by-kate-dicamillo.html

Friday, August 19, 2016. Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo. But amidst it all, I managed to read Raymie Nightingale. By Kate DiCamillo. I saw it on the Indie Bound Summer 2016 List. And knew I had to read it. It's by one of my favorite authors and it's set in Florida. I was trying to focus on going local in my reading. (Anyone know of any good books set in Idaho? Just another WordPress.com site. Before you speak, consider:. May 11, 2011. Will it glorify God? Will it move the Pilgrims closer to God? Is it going to glorify someone on the team or in the community? Will it detract the Pilgrim from receiving the intended message? Does it fit the message of the day and the flow of the weekend? Will it build up the Body of Christ? At the very core of The Walk to Emmaus is the Spirit of Emmaus. I believe in these questions so much I have had business cards printed with t...

Friday, November 30, 2007. The Beauty of Argument. With Big Tobacco under serious scrutiny for reportedly selling products linked to various health problems, how does it remain a high-profit corporation? A new film documenting the ins and outs of this thriving industry was recently released to show us just how Big Tobacco remains an economic giant. Surprisingly thought-provoking, this release pays heed to its own industry while effectively tackling the issues raised by the anti-smoking defense. Those opp...
