The Mushroom Diary - UK Wild Mushroom Hunting Blog | Lost in the Moss – The Collared Mosscap

http://www.mushroomdiary.co.uk/2014/05/collared-mosscap-rickenella-swartzii-tiny-mushroom

Lost in the Moss – The Collared Mosscap. Lost in the Moss – The Collared Mosscap. May 14, 2014. In Small and Special! By J C Harris. I often have a little scout around the garden if I’m moping about, just to see if there are any interesting little mushrooms popping up in the short grass. I was actually going to mow the lawn. Honest. Along with several others scattered about the place, was poking its cap out above the grass languishing in the moist moss that now makes up a lot of my lawn! Pale gills on th...

Big Bonus – The Horse Mushroom. Big Bonus – The Horse Mushroom. September 3, 2013. Grass, Meadows and Pasture. By J C Harris. Right now there are quite a few Agaricus (mushroom) species. I have already seen many species in varying urban habitats. I was especially lucky when I stumbled across these beauties literally round the corner from my house on a large grassy verge. The most welcome Horse Mushroom (. In this post). In fact, some. Were quite happily growing on a grassy verge nearby that very day!

Branching Out – The Branched Oyster Mushroom. Branching Out – The Branched Oyster Mushroom. August 7, 2012. By J C Harris. Luck was on my side this Saturday as I walked in one of my favourite woods. Stepping aside to give a couple some more room on the path, I just caught a glimpse of something white hiding beneath the undergrowth. Was it litter or was it a mushroom? You’ve always got to take a look…. Was a small stout and proud group of Branching Oyster Mushrooms (. Unlike the typical Oyster mushroom (.

Tiny Trooper – The Collared Parachute. Tiny Trooper – The Collared Parachute. July 29, 2014. In Small and Special! By J C Harris. A trip to a relatively close wood nearby produced some interesting finds for me. Many of which were quite small – but always fascinating. And what with the recent hot weather and the odd overnight downpour, my path through the woodland was swarming with hundreds of mosquitos. I took quite a few bites home with me that day! Keep an eye out for them this summer (and all the way ...

The Mushroom Diary - UK Wild Mushroom Hunting Blog | Shy Amanita? The Blusher

http://www.mushroomdiary.co.uk/2012/08/blusher-mushroom-amanita-rubescens

August 27, 2012. By J C Harris. There is quite a few of these babies popping up around now. It can be a confusing species to identify because of the similarities with the Panther Cap and Grey Spotted Amanita. Is one of the more common Amanita mushrooms. Summer to autumn is the best time to find them, usually solitary, in coniferous and deciduous woodland. The Blusher gets it’s common name from the way damaged or insect nibbled parts of the mushroom (including the gills) turn pink or reddish-pink&#4...

Should I use a mesh bag? « The Mushroom Farm Blog

http://mushroomfarm.com/blog?p=819

Should I use a mesh bag? When giving presentations on morels, there are several questions that I am guaranteed to get asked. Topping the list are:. 1) Should I use a mesh bag? 2) Should I use a knife to cut mushrooms or pull them up? 3) Do morels “pop up” or grow over time? 1) Should I use a mesh bag? The short answer is yes, but the long answer can get quite complicated. The primary reason to use a mesh bag is to keep your mushrooms fresh. 2007) So without fresh air, harvested mushrooms cannot continue ...

Old Copse: November 2014

http://oldcopse.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, 29 November 2014. Late Autumn felling, bonfires and fungi. This time of the year until Spring is the busiest for woodland people. However adverse the weather conditions, it's a time for speeding. Anyway, the Scots Pine has not been properly thinned and are mostly weedy specimens desperately reaching for the light. Although poor and thin, they are at least 60 feet tall, and each one, when felled, comes down with a great dramatic whumph! David Abbott from Sparrowhatch Forestry. It was an eye open...

Old Copse: Bracken overload

http://oldcopse.blogspot.com/2015/07/bracken-overload.html

Tuesday, 14 July 2015. During the winter of 20011 a new glade was created in the Scots Pine adjacent to the Pond. The spot was chosen because the pine was quite sparse , so not much felling was involved. Unfortunately, once the pines were removed, the bracken immediately rushed in, growing taller each year until now it is impossible to get through. The felled pine trees in the new glade, cut to lengths. The resulting sea of bracken. Sarah, bracken bashing in the 'car park clearing', made in 2010. Hi Grayh...

The Mushroom Farm Blog

http://mushroomfarm.com/blog

December 21st, 2013. Even during the height of winter, it is still possible to find wild edible mushrooms in the forest. These were found a short walk from my front door, growing on a dying Tulip Poplar. There were also a few other mushrooms out during the snow. The Ochre Spreading Tooth is fairly common throughout much of the year. When you find it completely fresh, it should have a nearly orange coloration to the teeth:. Read more of this post…. ». Thursday, 30 October 2014. Strawberry Tree trunks, moss covered rocks. Looks like a Japanese garden. Oriental Plane, Black Pine. Wednesday, 15 October 2014. Trying to decide if this archaeological feature marks an ancient cess-pit cover or a Spring. And here is our spanking new entrance, gate, track, and parking area, in the birch clearing on the east side of the wood. This gives us a safe turn in off the road, a firm surface to drive on, and space for timber extraction vehicles when needed. Yesterday, n...
