August 2, 2014. The Great Barrier Reef is a colorful underwater wonderland that is a huge tourist attraction in Australia. Cairns, Queensland is the scuba and snorkel capital of Australia. Although the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park runs along the coast of Australia, Cairns is where you go to dive (or so it seems! I did a one day trip that included two dives and two opportunities to snorkel – the day was full on! I was very excited to get my picture taken with Nemo as he hung out around his anemone.
