Far-flung adventures in science: Dissatisfaction
http://neuropgh.blogspot.com/2011/04/dissatisfaction.html
Far-flung adventures in science. Monday, April 4, 2011. I feel the urge to destroy the structured elements of my life, and a simultaneous, paradoxical pull to continue pressing on, to cling tighter to what I know rather than have to try again, building a new career, only to risk failing at that, too. I wonder why I didn't leave graduate school earlier, as soon as I realized I didn't really enjoy this career path ( 2nd year for me). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Far-flung adventures in science: July 2010
http://neuropgh.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Far-flung adventures in science. Thursday, July 29, 2010. I learned in grade school/high school that the way one wrote a paper was to: 1) make an outline; 2)write a first draft; 3)Revise/edit; and 4) write final draft. Throughout college, I aspired to this, but never really made it to that ideal. Usually, it was more like:. 1) Take notes on stuff you read. 2) Think about it alot. 3) Realize this paper is due in two weeks, start outline. Unless, of course it was finals week, and there was simply no time&#...

Far-flung adventures in science: September 2010
http://neuropgh.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Far-flung adventures in science. Sunday, September 19, 2010. Maybe I can float back and forth between industry/academia a bit. And of course, I didn't really realize that mountains in PA are a totally different breed than the ones in Western MA. And the plant life! So I feel better about things today (obviously), and I'm almost done with the 3rd revision of my talk. In less than 48 hours, I should be done with everything, and hopefully celebrating the good outcome :). Sunday, September 12, 2010. I actual...

Far-flung adventures in science. Sunday, February 14, 2010. So, my friend Kate defended her thesis on Thursday, after two cancellations, and is now a Dr. She's on her way to Chicago, IL even as we speak, to move into a new apartment before starting her new job at Northwestern. I'm so proud of her (she's been like a sister to me here in Pgh), but pretty bummed out that she's no longer next door to my lab :(. Monday, February 8, 2010. Greetings from lovely State of Emergency Pittsburgh! How it happens that...

Far-flung adventures in science. Monday, April 4, 2011. Things are starting to lift, and I'm getting ideas that I want to explore. This week seems to be going better already, and I realized today that my group meeting is not this Wednesday, so I have a little more time than I thought I did. I also decided not to put an abstract in for the meeting I'll be at in mid-April. So there's a little pressure off me. Someday I'll post about the birds though. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Far-flung adventures in science: March 2010
http://neuropgh.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Far-flung adventures in science. Tuesday, March 23, 2010. OMG, I have great Indian cookbooks. It's a sad fact that it takes me a couple of weeks to actually cook something once I think of the recipe. Generally, I buy most of the ingredients for a recipe, but not all of them, then don't make it to the store again for another week, and by then things are starting to turn south. Far-flung adventures in science. Sunday, May 16, 2010. Hot Salsa, Chocolate-Ginger Cookies, and French Bread. After a few weeks hiatus due to just-too-much-work, the Pittsburgh cookie railroad is back on track (ha! I had purchased some candied ginger a few weeks ago, at my local Indian grocery. I had plenty of cocoa and chocolate squares, so I went to the trusty Internets and searched for something chocolate and ginger. And I found these:. I'll definitely be making these again. I ground them up anyway, a...
