Mexico 1856 - 1861. 1861 - 1867 issues. The first stamps of Mexico were engraved by A. Villegas, who produced all the plates used for all the printings. The following is an attempt to describe the process of line engraving. This method is also known as intaglio. At first a designer creates a drawing, for example, which serves as the model for the engraver. Nowadays this model could be a photograph, of course, but photography was barely invented in 1856. Mexico 1856 - 1861. 1861 - 1867 issues. Bought from V. Segura? Accepted total - Total used. April 18, 1861. Burned and written off. From April 18, 1861 to 1863. The quantities of stamps accepted are not the total number of stamps printed. It is plain to see from the fact that some of these numbers are not evenly divisible by 60, for example, and therefore could not correspond to a number of whole sheets. The numbers used here for the quantities issued are the numbers labeled Total used in the above table.

Three plates of 60 subjects were used. There were 2 deliveries of the ½ real stamps from the printer. The actual number of printings is unknown, but no more ½ real stamps were printed after December 30, 1856. Celis Cano has the following distribution of stamps:. July 30, 1856. December 30, 1856. Prepaid letter over 30 leagues. Payment on delivery over 30 leagues. Under ½ ounce. 1 to 15 ounces. Under ½ ounce. Under ½ ounce. Under ½ ounce. 1 to 4 pounds. One league = approx. 2.6 miles = approx. 4 kilometers. 30 leagues are therefore about 78 miles or 125 kilometers. Up to 16 leagues. Under ½ ounce.
