What do you see when you walk through the city? Do you notice the small flower growing out of the crack in the sidewalk; the light flickering through the leaves of the trees overhead; the way the petals of the flower in the garden over there glow as the sun shines through them? These wonderful sights surround us, but do we see them? Gallery 1 : Quiet Moments. Gallery 2: Energy and Light.

A daisy a day. The star of the show. By the heron's nests. In a feathered net. Feathers in the grass. Floating in the night. In a bloomin' moment. Lace in the spring. Popping out all over. The sweet, sweet scent. The secret life of pollen. Whiskers in the air. With a sprinkling of light. A daisy a day. The star of the show. By the heron's nests. In a feathered net. Feathers in the grass. Floating in the night. In a bloomin' moment. Lace in the spring. Popping out all over. The sweet, sweet scent.

It's a Sailor's Life for me. I love to find the beautiful. The unusual and unique sights of Vancouver's urban landscape. Things you may not notice, things you may not know are here. These aren't the images you expect from the urban environment and it's my pleasure to share them with you. All images are available as limited edition prints. Please contact me for details.

Only photography allows me to capture the light and shadows in such detail. Whether I work in digital or film I love the freedom photography gives me to express what I see about the world around me and to experiment with process, image and presentation.

Meandering Light: How is working on spec any different than working for free?

http://filmisntdead.blogspot.com/2011/02/how-is-working-on-spec-any-different.html

Friday, February 4, 2011. How is working on spec any different than working for free? Or in other words, how else can a small business owner save money while supporting other creative professionals? Where is this coming from you might ask? Its a problem that has become even more pervasive with the easy access to professional level gear. That means charge industry rates yourself. And pay each other industry rates. Find someone who will do the work you need and skip the spec stuff. There is a r...After all...

Saturday, May 28, 2011. Okay, I've been pretty busy lately putting up new sites. This blog is now moving to a self hosted blog at www.filmisntdead.com. I'll no longer be putting posts up here, though I won't take anything down for now. Make sure to head to the new site if you've been following this one. Also, I now have my portrait and film based fine art images up at www.danareed.com. Check it out if you want to see what I have been up to lately. Posted by Dana Reed. Meandering Light: October 2010

http://filmisntdead.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 3, 2010. And what can I cobble together. Some things it only pays to get new, such as clean trays to avoid contamination rather than buying used, but many things when you are starting out definitely end up being DYI. For example, an excellent film drying cabinet can be made from an $11 hanging closet from IKEA and grandmother's old bonnet style hair dryer. The charity, which does some great work with BC women is The Minerva Foundation for BC Women. Posted by Dana Reed.

Meandering Light: April 2011

http://filmisntdead.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 21, 2011. The cult of youth and the arts. Lately I've been looking at a lot of art competitions as a way to get my art out there. It gets it on walls in group shows which provides experience and simply gets it seen. Even online competitions can be valuable that way. After all, if no one can see your art, what's the point? Emerging artists. The big barrier, sadly, is our society's ongoing fascination with the cult of youth. That's right, even the arts are prey to ageism. Posted by Dana Reed.

Meandering Light: August 2010

http://filmisntdead.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 30, 2010. Why is your style? I've been thinking a lot lately on style in photography. I've seen images I really like, others I think really suck, and noticed that there are a lot of popular trends that seem to be way more style than substance. This has led me to wonder, rather than what is your style, a better question might be why is your style? While our eyes may be able to see 3 or 4 times the dynamic range our medium may be able to capture, do we really see it when we look at a scene?

Meandering Light: December 2010

http://filmisntdead.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 3, 2010. I've been on a bit of a hiatus from photography for the last month. I went home for a vacation that turned out rather different and longer than expected. After dealing with a lot of things, I am slowly getting back into planning my business and doing research. One thing I've come across often in my research, and it's a big peeve of mine, is a number of photographers claiming to be self taught. Self taught? Or are they just an inconvenient fact to ignore for your ego? My musings ...

Meandering Light: Images of Arch Cape, Oregon

http://filmisntdead.blogspot.com/2011/05/images-of-arch-cape-oregon.html

Friday, May 13, 2011. Images of Arch Cape, Oregon. I had the wonderful chance to visit Arch Cape, Oregon last fall for a workshop and only recently seriously looked at the images I made, as I was going through them to enter another photo competition. Here's an eclectic selection that I think exemplifies the amazing variety of places and things you see on the coast, on the boundary of water and land. Enjoy. Posted by Dana Reed. Where to find me. Analogue photography is far from dead. April 30, 2012. Things are so rosy at the moment, we even have three brand new silver gelatin papers brought out by major players in the last year. Ilford has a POP (printing out)/direct positive paper. New on the market as well as a great pinhole camera. To use it in. They’ve also brought out a fine art textured paper. Their first new one in 13 years. Freestyle just brought out their own fine art paper. Also posted in black and white photography.

Where to find me. June 2, 2012. Is film better than digital? There is plenty of acrimony out there in the disagreement between film and digital photographers. There is also plenty of people for whom the medium doesn’t matter in the slightest. In my case, I feel the need to pontificate, mostly because I can’t help being opinionated and I like to share those opinions. So there. I think in some ways, film is indeed superior to digital for recording images. Professsionals used to shoot film, they got the sho...

On a Southern Breeze

On a Southern Breeze. Monday, September 15, 2014. We've been back in the States for about a month and are slowly settling back in to life in our native country. All told, we lived in Australia for three years and six weeks. Long enough to make lots of wonderful friends and to get used to the pace of life in Australia. Long enough to settle in and for it to feel like home. Packing up our apartment. Gourmet desserts from High Tea with friends. It was incredibly sad to leave Australia. I tried hard not ...

The Meandering Maddox's Blog

The Meandering Maddox's Blog. A journal of our life on the road. Thursday, August 17, 2017. Alpen Rose RV Park, Durango, CO H77 L58. Judy and I were privileged to help celebrate Bob and Joan’s 50th Anniversary this past weekend. Bob and Joan have been the managers here at Alpen Rose RV Park for the past 17 years. The workampers do not need much of a reason to have social get- togethers, but all agreed this was truly a special event. Bob and Joan’s 50th anniversary. Plenty of good food. It Has Been Awhile.

Meaninless Meandering from a Madmother

Sunday, November 10, 2013. The Tale of the Little Black (& White) Dress. Once upon a time in the land of Queens there was a bodacious babe named Madmother. Now this bodacious babe was also a curvaceously booby babe, an aging Botticelli-style babe who was fully in touch with the reality of her bod. This BB was turning the mixed-emotional milestone of the half ton. yes FIFTY! They have more designer labels and the sort of thing you seem to seek! Now, I need to bring in some details here. Madmother was deva...
