Pearl in Africa: Uganda: April 2007
http://goingtouganda.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Saturday, April 28, 2007. I am now sifting through notes and photos of my trip to Uganda. Somewhat delayed because I got pulled into working full-time as a consultant at (ahem, yes) the UN. More thoughts on that later. I find the topic of northern Uganda come up with varied frequency in my conversations at work - mainly because I work for a division of the UN Development Programme. Which brings me to the title of this blog. Posted by uptown girl. Thursday, April 26, 2007. Human R...

Pearl in Africa: Uganda: October 2006

Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Sunday, October 22, 2006. The UN and NGOs in Refugee Camps. My observations confirmed. Sadly. Below is an article by a law student at NYU published in the Washington Post last year:. The following OpEd, by NYU JD student Peter Dennis, was published in the Washington Post on April 12, 2005. The UN., Preying on the Weak. Tuesday, April 12, 2005; Washington Post, Page A21. This experience was sadly typical for the refugees with whom I worked. Although charged with the care of de...

Pearl in Africa: Uganda: June 2006

Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Friday, June 30, 2006. Kony in Person, for the First Time. Joseph Kony has recently given his first interview with a western journalist. Transcripts and comments given by the notorious LRA leader can be found on BBC's website here. How, how, how? Do people deny their involvement in killings and mass torture? But maybe this is a window into human nature - a lesson here for each one of us. Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, and not at the log in your own? Well, rea...

Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Monday, January 15, 2007. Rebels Snub Ugandan Peace Talks. See below for a recent article by BBC. Uganda's rebel Lord's Resistance Army says they will not participate in peace talks with the government that are to resume next week in southern Sudan. Delegation leader Martin Ojul said public pronouncements by President Omar al-Bashir and his deputy Salva Kiir show they are not welcome in Sudan. He said Kenya should host any further talks as it would be neutral ground. The BBC's Sa...

Pearl in Africa: Uganda: Still chewing...on these words
http://goingtouganda.blogspot.com/2007/05/still-chewingon-these-words.html
Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Monday, May 07, 2007. Still chewing.on these words. Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. Posted by uptown girl. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In an African Minute.

Pearl in Africa: Uganda: September 2006
http://goingtouganda.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html
Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Tuesday, September 26, 2006. So, I decided to start a small project to donate items to people living in the IDP camps I visited in northern Uganda. Few of the people in the camps have access to schools or books. And they desperately want to have their children go to school. My translator, Joseph, a fellow Christian and dear friend, has agreed to help deliver the items I send to the people we met in the camps. The items would be given to the camp commander who would be respons...

Pearl in Africa: Uganda: December 2006
http://goingtouganda.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Thursday, December 28, 2006. God turns somethings into nothings and nothing into something. A Tale of Five Herods. If you had five minutes with the President, what would you say? Philip Yancey posted 12/28/2006 09:10AM. After a tumultuous election season, re-reading the Gospels gave me a needed reminder of the relative importance of politics—any politics—in the grand scheme of eternity. Dying, Herod the Great divided his kingdom, and his son Archelaus so frightened Joseph that up...

Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Monday, July 31, 2006. Thoughts from Dear Friends. Thank you, dear friends. Being a stranger in a strange land feels less so when I think of you! Ps I haven't gotten around to responding to everyone, but updates will keep coming and will try my best to respond when I can. I wish I were there with you. I’m so impressed you negotiated with the airline on behalf of everybody on the plane – way to go! You’re a born leader and activist! Be human, doesn't it? Welcome to africa, huh?

Pearl in Africa: Uganda: August 2006
http://goingtouganda.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Pearl in Africa: Uganda. Thursday, August 31, 2006. What I Learned in Uganda. Main road in Gulu town. Cannot be summed up neatly or precisely.but I faced two major challenges during my time in Uganda, which ended up being blessings in disguise:. 1) A clear awareness of my own mortality; and. 2) An awareness of my utter dependence on God. What does one do in the face of an awareness that people's lives "are like grass which whithers away" in due season (Isaiah)? Protect me, God. Because I trust in you.
