Mangrove Alerts Community Service. The communication system infrastructure provided free by the Early Warning Network. Ldquo;EWN”) for community groups is used by MACS. The opportunity for MACS subscribers is to enhance this by sharing information locally. A text message to a mobile phone is clearly the most effective means of communication in an alert situation where speed is important, and it does not require someone being indoors at an online computer or near a landline phone. Mangrove Alerts Community Service. The navigable map below shows the approximate area monitored by MACS. It includes parts of Gosford, Wyong and Cessnock Councils and the Hunter region. Because the system is geospatial and based on location, we can handle subscriptions from the near surrounding areas in addition to those defined on the map. As you can see, we have designated 'Groups' within the total area. This assists in management of the system and targetting alert messages when required.

Ever since MACS was officially launched on 21 Janauary 2010, after a trial period that commenced on 8 December 2009, there has been widespread interest in the concept.
