happiness is… crap | harkthebluebird

Happiness is… crap. For the record, I think I should be awarded some medal of bravery for writing this. Last week, I came down with a stomach flu of some kind. I wasn’t feeling well, and had the trots all day. It happened to be my busiest work day, but I have never called in sick and I wasn’t going to break the streak of never for some stupid watery poo. I made it through my classes without too much discomfort and when I returned home, I thought the worst of it was over… wrong. 8230;Thank GOD alone!

Writing as Process of Discovery | Strawn ED
https://strawned.wordpress.com/2014/03/04/writing-as-process-of-discovery
March 4, 2014. Writing as Process of Discovery. Last month, I had the privilege of attending a Super Saturday put on by the Area 3 Writing Project. My session focused on developing teachers in their own writing practices with activities that can be easily integrated into the classroom. The activity we spent a majority of the time on was called a “writing sprint.”. This idea was a revelation. While I. Unit (during which I was already experimenting with a different approach to teaching Shakespeare. To begi...

Definitely not as exciting as pancakes, but…my first column! | Practicing Presence

An attempt at mindfulness in life, learning, and love. Definitely not as exciting as pancakes, but…my first column! Back in January, I sent in a few writing samples to The Denver Post to be considered for the Colorado Voices Panel, a group of local writers who publish columns throughout the year which focus on regional issues. I was ecstatic when I got the phone call offering me a spot…still pinching myself. Anyway, if you are curious, feel free to read it here. Perhaps while eating pancakes? You are com...

Drama Queen – The golden years revisited

The golden years revisited. Growing older with humor, compassion and dignity. July 31, 2016. July 31, 2016. Anyone who has survived raising teenagers is well acquainted with drama. The more traditional belief is that it relates to girls more than boys, but I think this may reflect the view that what females express is “dramatic” and what males express is daring, courageous, going out into the world and achieving success, or just taking charge in a manly fashion. Revert to being a drama queen. Notify me o...

Sorry, Chicken Little. – The golden years revisited

The golden years revisited. Growing older with humor, compassion and dignity. August 12, 2016. Sorry, Chicken Little. We are definitely a society that has become obsessed. With the need for a constant stream of news updates, breaking news, and. Is it something that we all really want? Do we have an unconscious belief that if we parade the stuff of nightmares in front of us all the time, that perhaps we will not fall victim to the tragedies that have claimed others? White Knight and a Picket Fence – The golden years revisited

The golden years revisited. Growing older with humor, compassion and dignity. August 10, 2016. White Knight and a Picket Fence. This post could easily be subtitled ” Maybe. Unicorns are real.” Because just maybe I have been waiting my entire life to be rescued by a white knight who will take me to my dream house – a Nantucket-style cottage situated on oceanfront property with the requisite white picket fence (preferably covered with heritage, sweet-smelling roses). Will come true one of these days. IR...

aqube : 2 : “Encounter” | harkthebluebird

Aqube : 2 : “Encounter”. The scientific community on Earth was frantically trying to make sense of what had happened. It was the year 2024, and the planet was receiving a radio transmission originally sent from Washington D.C. in the year 1900 from deep space. Protocols were followed, authorities were notified, and then a many-headed debate began. What possible explanations could there be? Had our radio waves been reflected by something in interstellar space and found there way directly back to us? In th...
