Friday, March 18, 2011. An interesting perspective: Do you have a hand in this? I am a dy/dan blog reader, and recently there has been a post about bloggers – especially the successful ones – who unknowingly become part of a game to improve money flow to certain institutions. If you are a blogger and don't want to improve the third party's bottom line in this way, you may be interested in learning more: http:/ blog.mrmeyer.com/? I would love to hear other people's thoughts about this one! Race to the top.
Learning in Maine: Bill Gates taking on state budgets and education
http://learninginmaine.blogspot.com/2011/05/bill-gates-taking-on-state-budgets-and.html
Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Bill Gates taking on state budgets and education. This is an interesting talk by Bill Gates. Of course, his main point we need to spend money on education, and disallow state level cuts to school budgets, including universities. He believes that this problem is solvable but – and this I like – we need to draw people in this discussion and search for solutions. Anyway, check this out and tell us what you think. Learning in Maine: Sit Still

Saturday, May 28, 2011. You really need to look at the range of issues, because if a 5-year-old can’t sit still, it is unlikely that they can do well in a kindergarten class, and it has to be the whole range of issues that go into healthy child development." Kathleen Sebelius. Forbes - E.D. Kain, American Times. Essential Question: Should five-year-olds be expected to sit still in class? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Maine 2009 1-to-1 Info. Wednesday, September 17, 2008. I am teaching Business Ethics this fall, and it's always quite a ride. The ride is an especially interesting one this particular term, in view of everything going on in the news. The election and dirty politics could keep me busy all term, but Wall Street is running a close second. I'll check in occasionally with the progression of this very intriguing class, and please send along any tidbits that you feel would be interesting fodder for the class. View my complete profile.

Friday, May 4, 2012. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. I saw the future and it works. I am borrowing this headline from Larry Cuban. Who borrowed it from Lincoln Steffens. Larry writes about his visit to a hybrid (charter) school in LA. His observations are curious, and honestly, do not describe a school I would like to send my child to if I had a choice. (My son attends a regular public school). I suggest you read all three parts of the experience, and get to the bottom of the concept. Does it really work?

Here are some other interesting things to explore and watch for: is the camera gradually zooming in, zooming out or staying static, is it clear in the center of the picture with the outside being fuzzy or visa versa? What about the lighting is it bright or dark? Was it near or far? Was it black and white or colour? What about the contrast, sharp or blurry?
