About a Journey...

Friday, August 22, 2008. Be Content Where You Are. I think I’ve finally reached a point where I’m ok with being here… I’ve been home for nearly two months. It partially feels like I’ve never left and it partially feels like I’m still a world away. But regardless, I’m in. I’ve told some stories and shared some photos but it’s impossible to encapsulate such an experience into a couple of hours over coffee. It’s not logical to sit down with someone and pour out everything that has happened. I have a job.

Friday, May 9, 2008. Thats awesome :) I wish I could have seen it myself. May 9, 2008 at 3:58 PM. We'll know you're truly culturally adapted when you come home with turkeys in each hand. May 12, 2008 at 12:11 PM. L¶ua, thÝ Ý hilarious. (It's also hilariãu that thÝ keybo¶d, in a little internet cafe in Hanoi, makÐ me type in Russsian/awkward and I have no idea why.). I hope you are still enjoying yourself and soaking up all the craziness that Ý Peru! May 20, 2008 at 3:49 AM. Hahaha. That is amazing.

About a Journey...: January 2008

http://www.laurasuzanneadams.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 31, 2008. I have to admit that part of me is glad that ethnic food week is coming to an end. Last night was Thai food and I do it wasn’t quite like Thai food at home. I wasn’t a fan. I couldn’t quite clear my plate but I’m not revealing my secret of how I got around that rule. Tonight we had East Indian food, which was spicy and fantastic! I think that is enough food talk for now. This week has been incredibly busy. Yesterday’s sessions stretched from 9am until after 10pm. We had time t...

About a Journey...: I Have a Dream

http://www.laurasuzanneadams.blogspot.com/2008/05/i-have-dream.html

Saturday, May 24, 2008. I Have a Dream. About a week ago we returned home to. After adventuring in the North of Peru. We stayed in two main cities and then worked with smaller churches in surrounding villages. We played with children, preformed our drama, shoveled sand, painted, carried bricks and prayed. The first church that we stayed at was in the city of. The city is about the size of. And seemed fairly similar except for the mass amounts of speed bumps. One afternoon we helped him put together books...

About a Journey...: March 2008

http://www.laurasuzanneadams.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 24, 2008. Kids Will Be Kids. We were walking down a street that I had never been down before… now that’s no feat since we’ve only been here three weeks and. Is a city of 9 million people. I’m looking for the amazing pink house that Sarah told me to look for on the way and I don’t see it. The neighborhood is a little more run down than ours, but not by much. It’s a little bit busier too: there are more cars and more people walking. Lidia rings the doorbell, we’re here. These women were such ...

all the while counting sheep...: Back for 10 days: How Was Nigeria?

http://thebarbairdianbleats.blogspot.com/2008/12/back-for-10-days-how-was-nigeria.html

All the while counting sheep. Saturday, December 6, 2008. Back for 10 days: How Was Nigeria? How are you supposed to respond to that question. People keep asking me as if I should have figured it all out, as if there was a word to describe the past three months in a way that will allow them to understand what it was like. But the truth is there isn’t. At least not yet. Why do I feel so at home and yet so foreign in both of these lands? How am I supposed to feel, God? What am I supposed to do? Thanks alot...

why hello, pilgrimage!: February 2008

http://jmastafarian.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Why hello, pilgrimage! Friday, February 29, 2008. This is a little something I wrote yesterday for this month's FIFUL Faith and Justice Forum; the topic was transportation and justice. Here are my two cents, whatever that adds up to. : ). Some of my favorite people, the Amish, say they ride buggies because it slows them down. The bus is my buggy, reminding me to slow down and think about the choices I make in life. Am I choosing to live a life marked by convenience and comfort and self-sufficienc...That ...

why hello, pilgrimage!: April 2008

http://jmastafarian.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Why hello, pilgrimage! Friday, April 25, 2008. Does this make anyone else cry? I can't tell if it's the mournful guitar intro, or Merry Clayton's powerful pleading voice, or simply the word. All this destruction is just a shot away, if we don't pay attention to it and keep it from happening. It always makes me cry, but I never really listened to the lyrics until tonight. And somehow they drove it home. Mick Jagger in a Rolling Stone interview:. Oh, a storm is threat'ning. My very life today. It's just a ...

Friday, May 30, 2008. Last day in May. Last day in May.wow! Time has gone by so fast and it is not slowing down. Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Just a few more days. I've been able to see things in my life that I need to surrender to Him, give up to Him, ask Him, and praise Him for the grace that He has for me. I want to challenge you as you stay updated with me, that you may feel God calling you to a deeper relationship with Him and I pray that you come to that realization DAILY! I pray that you be encouraged to be "covered in the dust of your Rabbi.". In Christ abounding Love,. Thursday, February 21, 2008. One of ...

Why hello, pilgrimage! Wednesday, August 27, 2008. The more you see. The less you know. The less you find out as you go. I knew much more then, than i do now. I sat in a class today, one that i sat in precisely two years ago. Theology, culture, and u2. One of the first classes that allowed me to realize the beautiful complexity and connectedness and enigma and challenge of the world around us. and gently asked me to take ownership and embrace of my small piece of the world that i have been given. http://jmastafarian.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Why hello, pilgrimage! Tuesday, June 17, 2008. I had a good day. Did you? Today I met a man named Singh while we were waiting at the doctor's office, for an appointment I had no desire to follow through with. Today I had the chance to dance around with some great authors and play my harmonica to old time revival music, complete with washboard. We heard Mark Scandrette give an incredible spoken word exhortation to reimagine. everything. Really, who wouldn't want to meet these guys? Sunday, June 8, 2008.

why hello, pilgrimage!: India's pretty self-explanatory.

http://jmastafarian.blogspot.com/2009/02/indias-pretty-self-explanatory.html

Why hello, pilgrimage! Thursday, February 19, 2009. My new grandmotherly spritely friend Jay and I saw a Bolloywood film together in Bangalore the other day. Fun. : ). Although we couldn't understand absolutely any of the Hindi spoken and sung, the visuals were India just as I am experiencing it outside the doors of classy Rex Cinema. In this vision I answer him/her simplistically and holistically as I point to the screen and shrug nonchalantly- "India's pretty self-explanatory.". Q is my favorite. Fresn...

The Looney Bin

Friday, August 3, 2012. I cooked my first meal in the house today, did 3 loads of laundry and I'm now watching TV on my new cable and using the computer on my new Wi-Fi. Speaking of doing laundry, I don't have to carry any of it up or down stairs! The AT&T guy came back at 7 pm tonight just to make sure it was all working as he had to leave for a while as someone else had to fix an issue. That is what I call service on a Friday evening. Now to get out of my place, get to the pool and meet some neighbors.

Wednesday, April 13, 2011. I'd like to be here.right now. As I sit on the couch on the verge of tears because I can't figure out where Harper hid my debit card and I'm so tired it hurts to stay awake, I'm dreaming of an island destination such as this. Even if just for an hour, wouldn't it be lovely? Although, if I can't locate my debit card, then I'm not even going down the street. Tuesday, December 21, 2010. April, in December. I knew I would find it, eventually. Somehow I'll learn to deal with that!
