Meal by Meal: One Big Table: An Underground Supper Club
http://mealbymeal.blogspot.com/2009/05/one-big-table-underground-supper-club.html
A manhattan mothers musings on cooking and community. Wednesday, May 6, 2009. One Big Table: An Underground Supper Club. Photo by Jacob Pritchard. An underground supper club in Brooklyn. At first, I admit, it was almost too intimate to stand in Heather’s home and watch her race around, given that i had never met her until this evening. But the closeness also built a sort of excitement, a mystery––what will happen next? What are the rules? Sang sweet folk songs while VJ Sarah played beautiful ambient vide...

A manhattan mothers musings on cooking and community. Wednesday, April 4, 2007. Too bad developers will be destroying the building next door to build million-dollar condos in 6 months. But let's not talk about New York real estate. Last night was like no other night. New Press) on the upper west side, so it was just me and the two boys, at an all-grown-up Seder in a small apartment that houses lots of glass. Posted by Sydney Railla-Duncombe. Meal by Meal: Family Affair
http://mealbymeal.blogspot.com/2007/04/family-affair.html
A manhattan mothers musings on cooking and community. Thursday, April 5, 2007. After the kids were fed and before the parents sat down to eat, the moms huddled around the wine, like it was a warm fire on a freezing cold day. As I opened bottle number 2, Susanna said, "Jean, that's why I like you. Always willing to go that extra mile". Glad I could be of usefulness," I laughed, as we clinked our glasses. I bit Maya one day after she twisted my nipples," said Zoe. We all laughed. It's hard," I said. Be exh...

Meal by Meal: The End
http://mealbymeal.blogspot.com/2009/11/end.html
A manhattan mothers musings on cooking and community. Tuesday, November 17, 2009. I started Meal by Meal in the spring of 2007. The challenge? To throw bi-weekly dinner parties as a tonic for the isolation that ailed me as a new mother. Too broke to hire babysitters and too tired to go out, my husband and I were becoming TV-addicted recluses. We had worked our way through all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And were midway into the follow-up series Angel,. Underground Supper Club: One Big Table.

Meal by Meal: Juice Fast Gone Bad
http://mealbymeal.blogspot.com/2007/10/juice-fast-gone-bad.html
A manhattan mothers musings on cooking and community. Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Juice Fast Gone Bad. Note to self: Never go on a juice fast. Will result in maddening headache, extreme hunger mixed with a large dose of the grumpies, followed by the need to strangle husband and toss children out the window. We started the day with a cup of miso and some green tea. For snack, we downed kale, ginger, carrot and lemons, juiced down to a small glass. Meal by Meal: Sunday Night Dinners
http://mealbymeal.blogspot.com/2007/03/sunday-night-dinners.html
A manhattan mothers musings on cooking and community. Tuesday, March 20, 2007. Why would an overextended writer and mother of two take on the additional task of throwing 25 dinner parties in 12 months? At this point, I'm not entirely sure, but it has something to do with wanting to combat those seemingly cliched, but ultimately important issues: community, family, human connection. How did this happen to me? Posted by Sydney Railla-Duncombe. There was an error in this gadget. What is Meal by Meal? Chicke...

A manhattan mothers musings on cooking and community. Tuesday, April 3, 2007. Dinner Number 1 March 22 2007. 8220;I feel terrible.”. 8220;My throat,” mutters Steve. 8220;Why didn’t we cancel last night? 8221; I sniffle, clearly sick. 8220;Why did we drink that last bottle of Lambrusco? 8220;I feel terrible.” I moan once again. “I need coffee. Shall we get up and get caffeinated before the savages awaken? 8221; I ask. It is 5:00am. 8220;Exactly.” I rasp to him and start coughing. Self-questioning moments:...
