La vita e bella. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Gnocchi, gelato and goodness. September 30, 2007. It’s such an exciting culture to be apart of and for the first time in my life I actually kind of like to watch professional sports. Also, something exciting is that today I just purchased tickets for a trip to Strasbourg, France http:/ www.destination360.com/europe/france/images/s/france-strasbourg.jpg. En quel moment, je suis tres, tres contente! E ovvio, vero? October 1, 2007 at 7:49 am. You are comme...

Adventures in South America: October 2007
http://backpackingdiaries.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Adventures in South America. Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile. Monday, October 29, 2007. We are in Uruguay! I keep forgetting that it is the end of October because it is the middle of spring here, and it's been about 80 degrees every day. Today felt like the perfect summer day, not a cloud in the sky. We'll be in for quite a shock when we come back in January and are faced with the brutal New York cold! That's it for now, just wanted to profess my love for Colonia. :). Eben and I will be...

Mamma mia, che stanca che sono. | la vita e bella

La vita e bella. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Mamma mia, che stanca che sono. October 7, 2007. Last week was a bit maddening, as my course load is increasingly getting more difficult and more condensed. I ended up doing very well on my midterm essay on the Caribbean Community and Single Market Economy, something I was nervous about since I a) have no background in developing countries regional trading blocks, and b) had no idea what the CARICOM. 4) This soap opera type show called Caterina e le sue...

Adventures in South America. Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile. Wednesday, September 26, 2007. A Lost City and a New City. Friday, September 21, 2007. It's our last day at Inti! El profe Eben es malo! La profe Nicola es mala! Which means "[Professor's name] is bad! Then she'll burst into laughter and run away and tell someone else that they're bad. It's really adorable in spite of its weirdness. She's only 8, so she can get away with it. The ever-mischievous Mabel with Eben and the puppy.

Adventures in South America: Bernardo O'Higgins and sunshine!
http://backpackingdiaries.blogspot.com/2007/12/bernardo-ohiggins-and-sunshine.html
Adventures in South America. Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile. Monday, December 10, 2007. Bernardo O'Higgins and sunshine! We are on the move once again, bouncing around from city to city. We've had lots of gray skies and rain, which is a bit of a bummer. Temuco, a city that is known for its Mapuche. We also checked out the indigenous handicraft market in town (more of the same). After a day in Chillán we went down to Concepción, where O'Higgins declared independence. Yay! So yesterday c...

Adventures in South America: August 2007
http://backpackingdiaries.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Adventures in South America. Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile. Wednesday, August 29, 2007. We also made it into San Franciso, the church that was closed for restoration the last time we went by. It was closed for restoration for good reason, half of the paintings lining the columns were too faded and dark to make out what they were. It seemed like quite the space and I would be happy to go back once work is more complete. Sunday, August 26, 2007. We all drove out to Otavalo Saturday afte...

Adventures in South America: Parents!
http://backpackingdiaries.blogspot.com/2007/12/parents.html
Adventures in South America. Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile. Monday, December 17, 2007. Ok, so the parents are here and life is good. A brief synopsis of what happened before they got here and then what we have been doing. Sarah is a friend of dogs. While I was surfing, she managed to befriend at least 3 stray dogs who joined her while tanning on the beach. One even followed us all over town, waiting for us while we did internet and everything. It was very cute. 4 towns in 4 days.

Adventures in South America: Volunteer tourism
http://backpackingdiaries.blogspot.com/2007/12/volunteer-tourism.html
Adventures in South America. Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile. Monday, December 10, 2007. So I have just read Jennifer Conlin's article in the NY Times entitled, " Trips to Help Shape the World. Now, while I have certainly done a good share of sightseeing and relaxation on this trip, I feel like these volunteer vacations are contradictory and frustrating to anyone seeking viable volunteer options. Spend a week playing an African orphan and then dine in a 4-star restaurant? I think what m...
