Renovation of a house in Slovakia. Tuesday, 24 January 2012. It's been a while, rounding up the end of the semester and now exams etc. Finally got round to starting on isolating Grannies side, so she is separated from all the dust and mess! And hopefully she'll stop complaining she's cold.). Knocked all the render off in an attempt to see how much space there would be, and where the ceiling boards end. Dug down to about 40 or 50cm and cleaned up next to the existing foundation (You can see it on the left).

Looking around I started to wonder about cracks in walls and what state they were in, I knew that the middle wall had shifted a long time ago but since its being removed completely there's no issue with that. However in the top picture you can see a crack leading diagonally. which will require further investigation at some point. Renovation of a house in Slovakia. Monday, 26 September 2011. Where did the ceiling go? Started removing the ceiling in the kitchen and bathroom to be, since it will be replaced anyway, and the wall needs to come out in order to be renewed. Had to find a new circular saw blade after the existing one was extremely blunt, it would be better as a smoker than a saw. Turns out that the size of the blade is something that nobody stocks. so had to go for a slightly smaller one. oh well. Anyhow, some pics! Ahead...

Maria's Father has levelled all the walls and plastered them, He's also fitted a new door frame to the room, the old one was about 65cm wide, new one is 80cm wide, door is on order but will take 4 weeks to arrive! 2nd coat of filling the joints and screw holes I only got round to doing yesterday. Renovation of a house in Slovakia. Sunday, 20 November 2011. Things have been going slow, I've not had much time with my lectures and studying, and the paint took forever to dry. Pictures speak a thousand words so I'll try and stick to pictures. First, we've painted everything white as a primer to see how the freshly rendered walls would react to it. Renovation of a house in Slovakia. Friday, 10 February 2012. Operation Door Part Deux and Project Hallway. Not done any updates for a while now. Finished fixing the doorframe in place and started with the construction of the top of the wall. Wall built up, a gap has been left for the fusebox, I have drilled holes through the brick (So you can't see it on the surface) to the void between the loft and the ceiling for the wiring to come down. Ok so where do we start. 2x lintels are in above where the fireplace will be slotted in, with a little door for access to the back of the fireplace for the backboiler etc. Blockwork above that, for as far as I can go. Renovation of a house in Slovakia. Monday, 18 February 2013. Catch up time (Part 2). Right, so this is after I came back from Holiday. Nice new floors laid! Only 2 real dissapointments here, one, they made very little attempt to protect the shower drain, and actually knocked it off center before pouring screed all around it anchoring it in place. It simply had a rag shoved inside the joint and a plastic (ribbed! Second niggle, they burried the drain for the kitchen! Anyhow, cracked on with bedroom ceiling.
