Julie in Jodhpur

Tuesday, September 16, 2008. On my way back! Only a few more hours until I embark on a 48-hour expedition en route to home. First, a night train to Delhi; then, 16 hours of napping, eating my last authentic Indian meals and wandering around Delhi; and then, a 15 hour plane ride across Africa and the Atlantic. It will be very bittersweet to leave this place, but in lieu of getting sentimental, I will leave it at this:. I will see you all so, so soon! Sunday, September 14, 2008. Final weekend in India.

Julie in Jodhpur: Wrapping up with more ramblings...

http://www.julieinjodhpur.blogspot.com/2008/09/wrapping-up-with-more-ramblings.html

Tuesday, September 9, 2008. Wrapping up with more ramblings. So, a few weeks ago I was dying to come home. Mainly, I was craving pesto, friends and family, and tank tops. But as the end quickly approaches (a week from now I will be in transit), I have regained some of my initial fascination and appreciation of all things Indian. And here are a few more curiosities I've encountered in the past few days:. The only deodorant sold here seems to be marketed to children. People here use a lot talcum powder.

Julie in Jodhpur: August 2008

http://www.julieinjodhpur.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 28, 2008. When it rains, it pours: My research is finally moving right along! As expected, work has really picked up in the last few weeks and after two months of putting my research somewhat on the back burner in order to do whatever Veerni needed, I am finally conducting interviews, observing HIV/AIDS discourse at local hospitals and NGOs, watching shows about child marriage, etc. The one amazing thing about the Indian system is that ART is administered for free, and as far as I could ...

Julie in Jodhpur: Jaipur

http://www.julieinjodhpur.blogspot.com/2008/09/jaipur.html

Wednesday, September 3, 2008. The weekend away was interesting on many levels, so I'll start from the very beginning and ramble a bit randomly (because in all honesty, the sites in Jaipur were not particularly amazing). As I waited on the train platform, a very nice 30-something woman came up to me, looking a bit embarrassed. She leaned in and, practically whispering, told me that my shirt was up. I think, "What is she talking about? Well, apparently, my backpack was. In terms of the fashion faux. Jaipur...

Julie in Jodhpur: June 2008

http://www.julieinjodhpur.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 30, 2008. Poori, parties, and Sunday shopping. My first Sunday in Jodhpur was really unique. Most people do take Sunday off (they generally work six days a week), but shops and restaurants are widely open. Long, usually cotton, shirts, often worn with pyjamas. On our shopping excursion, Chloe and I also searched desperately for, and found, Scrabble! After shopping, we celebrated Govind, the guesthouse owner's, 25th birthday for the rest of the day. Which we shared with the girls on the roof.

Alyssa in Turkey: August 2008

http://alymaria.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 31, 2008. And look at this sweet cat! Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Here are some pictures of Ani.  We visited the site with a Canadian guy, a British guy, and a Japanese girl who were all staying at the same hotel.  . The river is the border with Armenia.  Also, I asked about the Armenian mining activity that was clearly visible over the border, and the general consensus was that it had nothing to do with wanting to blame Turkey for not taking care of the ruins.  . And general Ani pictures:.

Various adventures around town. Join me on an epic journey. Friday, July 18, 2008. All the small things. If you'd like a more detailed explanation of the events that transpired between her and the devil child. Said devil child, Ayoosh. Other events are filling the time as well, between writing the report and sitting around. I finished the Namesake - what a book. I've never read something that summarizes my life so well. For those that haven't read it, it's worth it. Edgar's neck whilst sporting Jasdeep.

Alyssa in Turkey: Lessons in Bus Travel Part 2:

http://alymaria.blogspot.com/2008/08/lessons-in-bus-travel-part-2.html

Thursday, August 21, 2008. Lessons in Bus Travel Part 2:. You may get dropped off by the side of the road. So Kapadokya is crazy.  It's known for its wine and its strange rock formations.  It's basically a cross between Napa Valley, Utah, and Mars.  I kinda felt like I was on the set of Star Wars, which, I mean, I was. The Göreme Open Air Museum is a UNESCO site.  The rocks were carved out, and churches were built inside of them. Looks kinda Tatooine-y. But Tatooine is supposedly in Tunisia. Dwade's Dail...

Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Here are some pictures of Kars! 160;Traveling with Josef was great, because since he was a guy, it was easier for him to strike up conversations with random people.  For instance, all the boys who wanted us to take their pictures.  The girls just giggled and made fun of us.  I guess some things don't change. Saturday, May 31, 2008. Later: "Çay var mı? 160;"Çay yok."  Which basically means, "Does tea exist? 160;"Tea does not exist."  So I ordered a cup of coffee instead.  The lady then went off on this long string of unfamiliar Turkish words, and my look of confusion and terror resulted in me accidentally refusing a complimentary piece of Turkish delight.  . Alyssa in Turkey: Kars Call to Prayer

http://alymaria.blogspot.com/2008/08/kars-call-to-prayer.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Kars Call to Prayer. I took a video of the intersection of at least three calls to prayer around Kars Citadel.  It's not high quality, but I think it's pretty cool. Julie's Semester in Ireland. Half the fun of the travel is the esthetic of lostness. Friday, May 15, 2009. Well, I just got back from my 10 day trip. It was amazing! But since I only have a few days left in Ireland, I'm not going to do a huge post about it because I don't want to waste my Ireland time doing blogs (that despite appearances, actually do take me at least an hour to put together.) I'll just tell everyone about it when I see you next week! Sunday, May 3, 2009. Me and Jaye in Salthill! Hangin'...
