Last night, my Facebook was filled with hatred, bigotry and racist talk and sprinkled with a mixture of ignorance from both sides. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. African Americans in Mainstream Media. African Americans are not a consistent asset in mainstream media. Nor are they portrayed in a positive light. There was 67,000 mainstream news stories that were reported from February 2009 through February 2010. Out of those stories only 643 (1.9% ) were related towards African Americans. In a significant manner. Hispanics and Asians received even less coverage than this. Hispanics received (1.3%) and Asian (.2%). The Pew Research Center.

Thursday, November 11, 2010. When we think of black owned media outlets we assume BET, but it was sold by Bob. Johnson to Viacom in 2004. We naturally think of Oprah and her Harpo production and OWN network. We often overlook and do not mention Cathy Hughes. In 1979, Hughes founded Radio One, and with then-husband Dewey Hughes bought AM radio station WOL 1450 in Washington, D.C.Her fortunes began to change when she revamped the R&B station to a 24-hour talk radio format.
