Steve's Adventure with the Peace Corps. My Stories about Peace Corps and the Kingdom of Tonga. Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Preparing for the Coronation of King George Tupou V. Is crowning a King. He’s not a new King. In fact, he’s been the King for almost two years, but is just now having the official coronation ceremony. Some newspaper accounts have estimated that 4000-5000 people may come to the country for the coronation. If that happens, it would be the most people ever to visit. The Kingdom of Tonga.

Sunday, February 24, 2008. Last weekend I went to Yokote's kamakura festival, for which a few parts of the town are filled with igloo-like snow huts. Friendly locals manned the huts (very homey inside! An inside look.surprise! You have to take off your shoes. A small shrine kamakura. We finally made it inside one! Amelie, jon, owen, cathy and edel. I was very disappointed when I discovered this snow sculpture was not a rabbit, as I had hoped from afar, but pikachu. My favorite picture from the festival!

Friday, December 7, 2007. Baby, it's cold outside. Akita is getting ridiculous amounts of coverage in the nytimes. here. You can compare with my own pics of the exact same spot (taken back over autumnal equinox). In oth...

Steve's Adventure with the Peace Corps. My Stories about Peace Corps and the Kingdom of Tonga. Friday, November 28, 2008. I am thankful that I live in a wonderful place surrounded by people I really like and I'm doing something that I enjoy. On Thanksgiving day, I joined 20 fellow Americans in celebrating Thanksgiving Day Tonga style. We had a great meal with turkey and all the trimming. A special treat for me this year was the addition of Cinnamon Pie to the dessert menu. Cinnamon Pie is a Hunsicker...

Steve's Adventure with the Peace Corps. My Stories about Peace Corps and the Kingdom of Tonga. Sunday, August 31, 2008. The following was written by Joey 'Afitu Manfredo, who is the longest serving volunteer currently in Tonga. He is also our Volunteer leader. He agreed to allow me to post this article about his recent visit to Vava'u. Inquisitive: It’s easy to read and ask questions about culture—but it takes a little more to get knee-deep in the stuff…especially in the dark, at 6 am, ...Sorry to just b...

Steve's Adventure with the Peace Corps. My Stories about Peace Corps and the Kingdom of Tonga. Saturday, October 25, 2008. Fishing and Phone Numbers. I went fishing Saturday with two Tongan friends. Both have a lot more experience fishing than I have and I was keen to get out and enjoy the day. As it turns out, I caught the only fish of the day, a small grouper which I landed shortly after we threw our lines in the water. I now have a new phone number. It is 12566. I had to switc...Wednesday, Octo...
