James Spaugh dotcom: August 2009

http://www.jamesspaugh.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 13, 2009. Cash for My Clunker. We've got a 20 year old Nissan pick-up that our 16 year old drives. We've had it for about 10 years. Good truck, reliable, have really gotten our money out of it. Several weeks ago, our son calls on his way home from work, saying that he has broken down. I go and pick him up, have the truck towed to a garage. The timing belt had broken and we had bent a valve. So we are looking at some $ to fix it. About this time, the ol' Cash for Clunkers. We got to the c...

James Spaugh dotcom: My View

http://www.jamesspaugh.com/2012/04/my-view.html

Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Back in January, we did a sermon series as a church based on the book The Circle Maker. By Mark Batterson. (If you haven't read it, read it. If you have read it, read it again! During that series, many of us began praying circles around many different things in our lives. I challenged our folks to pray circles around our property - where we will soon build a new facility. Anyway, this is my view. Today of where I stopped on the prayer circle for some time with God.

James Spaugh dotcom: Small Things

http://www.jamesspaugh.com/2012/04/small-things.html

Tuesday, April 3, 2012. We have a Sears riding mower that we have had for about 10 years. It still works well, but looks a little rough. A couple of years ago, I noticed a crack in the hood and thought that I need to put some tape or glue on it to keep it from getting worse. But I didn’t. I just kept forgetting. Anyway, a few weeks ago I researched about getting a replacement hood. Guess how much one of those cost? Lesson to be learned. To fix something while it is still small and take action. Did you kn...

http://www.jamesspaugh.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Today our little Hyundai reached 200,000 miles. Amy and I were on our way to our coffee shop for a little date. I like milestones. This one shows that we have an older car (2003) that we have driven a lot (we've put all but 7 miles on it). That car has been paid off for years. Saturday, June 26, 2010. Sure, you can get them.". Nope, we had bought two right shoes. We laughed and laughed. Good times. We did go back and exchange a right for a left.). Wednesday, June 9, 2010. We knew ...

Saturday, November 28, 2009. How to cut Cable, Go OTA and combine Hulu with PlayOn. Ever since I’ve received my “ cease and desist. 8221; how have I been holding up? After all, I am getting all of my TV “OTA” (over the air). To be honest, I've amped up my usage of Hulu. Hulu allows you to stream, for free, Television programming from various networks (most notably absent is CBS). However, amid rumors that Hulu will start charging. I have been playing with building a low cost DVR. Honestly, this is pretty...

Creative Loafing: September 2009

http://creative-loafing.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 16, 2009. Songs I learned from USC Marching Band. This weekend is Alumni Band weekend, and to kick it off, I have several posts about my time in the USC Marching Band. Tonight’s topic – Song Lyrics that have been stuck in my head for twenty years. Not a complete list, but hopefully, fairly clean. Wild Thing…You make my heart sing…you in the red shirt…wild thing. At some point, the lyrics of any song will inadvertently get changed. Case in point, while playing the song. No matter wher...

Creative Loafing: After the Holidays

http://creative-loafing.blogspot.com/2011/01/after-holidays.html

Sunday, January 02, 2011. Cindy asked if I had experienced any of the post holiday “let down.” She was asking this as we brought the boxes down from the attic, took down and repackaged the decorations. Now, with guest are gone and decorations removed, routine is about to reinsert itself back into life. Today I think I do have just a twinge of the post season blues, but there is also nervous anticipation about what 2011 will bring. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Creative Loafing: Welcome 2011

http://creative-loafing.blogspot.com/2011/01/welcome-2011.html

Saturday, January 01, 2011. Even though the Gamecocks did not pull out a victory on New Year Eve’s Chic-Fil-a Bowl, we had a great evening shared with friends and family. Both girls went to a church lock-in and had a blast. Although I would have loved to sleep-in this morning, I am so appreciative of the many chaperones who helped make this event possible. The lock-in makes for a new years tradition: instead of black eyed peas and collards, we lay low and sleep. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Creative Loafing: December 2010

http://creative-loafing.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 31, 2010. Hi there, it’s me. I find it funny to look at my last post that was about being able to post again…and here I am, six months later. I could not even scratch up an additional post while on vacation. Go figure. I think that it is really a statement about being busy. For me, I feel that I killed my blog when I tried to turn it away from why I started it anyways – a way for me to journal what is going on in my life. I over reached. That’s about it. Creative Loafing: October 2009

http://creative-loafing.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 28, 2009. With the Virginia elections right around the corner, the Campaign Ads are in full force. Most of them, I tune them out because they are utter nonsense. Really, imagine trying to sell any other product the way that Politicians sell themselves. There is one type of ad that really cracks me up. If a candidate has served in the military, inevitably the line “he will fight for Norfolk they way he fought for America” just makes me giggle. Links to this post. For the most part, I ha...
