Drift Planting in bloom. Blythe House #gardens smiles again. #flowers #gardening #Echinacea. The drift bed was refreshed mid June this year and by August it is showing some stunning colour. Rudbeckia, Echinacea and the Verbena bonariensis are the key flowers in this planting. Echinacea glow against the glinting gold light from the Pheasant’s tail grasses (Anemanthele lessoniana). There is also a good colour contrast when… Read More. Goldfinch on Verbena Bonariensis Seeds. #gardening #gardenchat. Verbena ...

A bit of a while since my last update but the tunnel doors were installed and the tunnel planted in late June. Wildflower #meadow sown after dead grass/weeds scarified and removed #gardening #gardenchat. After weed-killing the grass. Along with the moss/weeds in the selected patch it was time to remove the dead vegetation and sow the wildflower seed mixture. The scarified thatch was hand-raked into piles and taken to the dump. A powered scarifier makes light work. Hand-raking th edead thatch was hard work. The second scarification removed a layer of soil mixed with remaining thatch. Wildflower mix being sown.

With so many #gherkins already pickled it was time for a new approach. #GYOshow #preserving. There are only three Gherking ‘Pickling’ variety plants in the polytunnel and they are so productive this year that it would be a waste to keep pickling them whole.
