You are your own best teacher. A Year as a Professional Writer. Wow, I can hardly believe I’m writing these words, particularly the title of this post. I work in a most beautiful place, a tropical botanic garden! Educational programs (wish I could go to botany camp! Strange plants ( some of which I wrote. As well, which I hope t...

You are your own best teacher. Anna Atkins, Cyanotypes and British Botany. Anna Atkins was a British botanist of the 19th century. She was born on this day, March 16, in 1799. Her notability is due to her novel use of the cyanotype photographic process (similar to a blueprint) to record images of plants and algae. What a revolution this was for science! No more relying solely on illustrators to record what plants look like. Latticed stinkhorn (Clathrus crispus) cyanotype. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Today’s the 161st anniversary of the publication of Moby Dick, and I happen to be about 80 pages into it as of last night! Everyone is familiar however with Moby Dick, if even from cartoons! 4 comments on “ On this Day in Publishing History. October 18, 2012. October 18, 2012. I think you’re right! October 18, 2012.

You are your own best teacher. Shadow People are Real A Halloween Post. It always looked the same: very, very tall, maybe 7 feet or so; lanky, thin, flowing, and utterly black. Not like a shadow, but rather like the total absence of light, except in the shape of a human body. I never saw a face, or any other features. I just got the impression it was male. That’s it. My feeble attempt to render what I saw. Ultimately, it’s the one time in my life of which I am sure I had some glimpse of something paranor...

Mold appears out of nowhere, doesn’t it? Baseball mitts left in the garage develop disturbing colors; perfect raspberries get furry in a wink. It wasn’t til 1729 that Micheli. Katie's camera blog. Professional Photography by Katie Johnson, Santa Fe, NM. Train by a Lake in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. I took this photo eleven years ago, when I took the summer off, packed my car with my dog, my camera, and my camping gear and headed out all over the Northern US and up into Canada. Oh, it was a good summer. My favorite place on this trip was a place that stole my heart — Jasper National Park. By KatiesCameraBlog on March 27, 2012. Posted in Nature - Plants - Flowers.

In A Sentence .org. The best little site that helps you understand word usage with examples. Intractableness in a sentence. Perhaps it is a symbol of the intractableness of the debate over replacing the viaduct, but people on both sides of the aisle seem mightily annoyed by this turn of events. The humanities, unlike the natural sciences, had nothing to lose, or so it was thought, and, unlike the social sciences, they had no knowledge of the intractableness of the political matter.
