Independent Travel Okinawa

Sunday, August 16, 2009. We are now far far away from Okinawa. But it was a great two years we will always treasure. Things we miss about Okinawa, in no particular order:. Stepping in for a dive off the seawall. Fabu curry house for dinner. The produce market behind camp shields. Seaside walks at araha or sunabe, zanpa or maeda. The Japanese pride in workmanship and attention to detail. Safety of one's person and property. Skymark flights to mainland Japan. Links to this post. What a lovely goodbye - dri...

Independent Travel Okinawa: Seaside the Beach hotel and restaurant

http://indietravelokinawa.blogspot.com/2009/08/seaside-beach-hotel-and-restaurant.html

Sunday, August 16, 2009. Seaside the Beach hotel and restaurant. Location: Sunabe; from the 58 turn at Hamagawa, then turn right after the port. Take this road until you see the big purple Sea Dream apartment complex, and turn left there (there is a sign for Seaside the Beach at that corner as well). The hotel is on the right. Park on the seawall. Hours: Holukea restaurant is open from 1700 every evening. What a lovely goodbye - drinking Orion and eating minipizzas while watching the sun set over Chatan.

Independent Travel Okinawa: Monkey pod

http://indietravelokinawa.blogspot.com/2009/06/monkey-pod.html

Friday, June 19, 2009. Locations: Naha, north of Kokusai street; from the Mitsukosji department store, walk a couple blocks east and turn down a street than appears to have several restaurants on it (sorry, cannot be more specific). On the west side of the street, ie your left, within about a block will be a wooden construction cafe with vintage Americana decor. This is Monkeypod - they have a mini-chalkboard sign outside. Google map, Japanese labels. Google earth map, English labels.

Independent Travel Okinawa: Delicious cafe

http://indietravelokinawa.blogspot.com/2009/07/delicious-cafe.html

Saturday, July 11, 2009. Location - heading east on the 23, turn right at the Bowling center sign. The restaurant is on the left-hand side, before you get to the Sports/bowling center and Kitakaisen. Hours: approx 11:30-1:30 lunch, 6p- dinner, unsure which day closed. We don't like resorts. We avoid tour groups. We like good food for reasonable money, and where possible we want to give our money to local people, not corporations. There isn't much English-language information on Okinawa for pe...

Independent Travel Okinawa: Korea - week 2

http://indietravelokinawa.blogspot.com/2009/06/korea-week-2.html

Friday, June 19, 2009. Korea - week 2. Same money for a slightly nicer room with a worse view. And surrounding islands. http:/ eng.tongyeo. But Tongyeong's real attraction is the ferry terminal. This Seoul Times article explores some of the possibilities: http:/ theseoultimes.com/ST/? This three leg trip needs to be discussed with the helpful desk people at the Tongyeong t. Imibap but possibly more delicious. We also enjoyed a fish lunch at a busy joint by the Ferry terminal (just east of it, on the ...

Santillan Adventures!!: September 2009

http://santillanadventures.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Adventures with Tara and Dustin. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Mini muffins will be the death of me. I was gunna put these pictures in the fall post but decided they needed their own post. These muffins were that good. I made them twice in one week. Dustin and I consumed 24 Sweet Onion Mini Muffins in one night. One night of pure bliss. First batch had yellow onions which turned out to make a far superior muffin than the second batch with red onions. Am I turning into Dustin? Eat it. You want to. Or when ...

Santillan Adventures!!: January 2010

http://santillanadventures.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Adventures with Tara and Dustin. Monday, January 04, 2010. I love getting mail. Because sometimes you get unexpected presents from friends named Michelle who see a Playdoh ice cream maker and automatically think of you. I also love getting mail because you sometimes get your $100 worth of Hanson merchandise earlier than expected. And then you get to show off your new Hanson, zip-up hoodie. And your comfy new Hanson shirt which actually doesn't say Hanson anywhere on it so no one will ever know. We're her...

Santillan Adventures!!: October 2009

http://santillanadventures.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Adventures with Tara and Dustin. Friday, October 23, 2009. It gets dark really early here. Even in the summer the sun's down between 6 and 7pm. By the way, that's Adams in the picture with me. We brought him along (my suggestion actually) because he's a nice boy and we like him. Even though he did this. We've actually seen this band before at a club! UhI don't remember. I think Dustin was taking pictures at this point. Official Rocktoberfest mugs with beer! There were a lot of pretty good food stands&#46...

Santillan Adventures!!: August 2009

http://santillanadventures.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Adventures with Tara and Dustin. Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Just a few pictures from this weekend that make me happy to call this tiny island home. This is Leal. He's the one that's leaving cause he's a sillyhead like that. Check out his tattoos. You win if you recognize those symbols. He got the little one first and then decided it was too small. But instead of covering it up with a new tatt, he got the same exact thing on the other arm. Only bigger. I told you he was silly. I blame all this craziness ...

Life As We Like It. Relocated back to the metro D.C. area, after a 3 year hiatus. Tuesday, March 2, 2010. So we're here, in sunny California! That said, we live about a 5 minute drive from Kevin's office at Port Hueneme, Naval Base Ventura County. I hope he doesn't get used to it, because I don't think we'll be in Oxnard forever. As I'm currently a woman of leisure, I've been able to spend more time cooking and experimenting with recipes. While I don't have my own backyard garden for herbs, I've been...

Adventures with Tara and Dustin. Thursday, April 30, 2009. New York better get ready! I've come to depend on him far too much. He's my number one source of entertainment! I should be packing right now but I really don't want to. I started packing yesterday but got to a point where my suitcase was stuffed and I hadn't even packed my shoes or bathroom stuffs! I think he's losing his mind. I am looking forward to:. Seeing the little sibs! Hanging with my Nana on the set of. We Own The Night (. Those things ...

Santillan Adventures!!: December 2009

http://santillanadventures.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Adventures with Tara and Dustin. Wednesday, December 30, 2009. The few pictures I took on Christmas. Although we claimed this would be "THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVERRRRRRR! We kinda failed. Don't get me wrong, this Christmas was pretty much perfect for us this year as far as Christmases without friends or family goes. But it wasn't, by any means, the best or even one of the best that we've had. Swaroski Crystal Mickey necklace! By far, my favourite gift from Dustin. I'm too tired and lazy to cook! Just you wai...

Santillan Adventures!!: Pretty Christmas Eve Makeup

http://santillanadventures.blogspot.com/2009/12/pretty-christmas-eve-makeup.html

Adventures with Tara and Dustin. Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Pretty Christmas Eve Makeup. So, tonight we went to the Southeast Botanical Gardens (coming soon to a blog near you! With some friends to see their light display that they do every year. I used it as an excuse to test out my eyeshadow plan for Christmas Eve night since I'll be working till 2:30 and I wanna look as festive as possible. They match my earrings too! Yea, I went a little overboard on the close-ups but I was so dang pleased with my...
