Idiosyncratic Fashionistas

Monday, December 11, 2017. Some of you may have seen that I took a short trip to Tokyo back in October. It's about time I showed you some pictures from my trip. I lived there from 1981 to 1992. I still have friends there, and of course deep roots, so I try to get back as often as possible, but this time it had been nine years. I had the great good luck to stay with my friend Kazu, who lives in the heart of the city. Several of my friends deal in antiques. On Saturday, I went to Nishi Ogikubo Station ...

Idiosyncratic Fashionistas: May 2015

http://idiosyncraticfashionistas.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 31, 2015. A Current Affair: Vintage in Brooklyn's Industry City. With our old vintage haunts in Manhattan disappearing - victims of high real estate prices - we were thrilled to be invited to A Current Affair's,. As we entered the space, directly on our right was Andrea Hall Levy's Lofty Vintage,. Featuring large vitrines of silver and bakelite jewelry and an amazing selection of clothing. Front and center was this mannequin with CDG shorts (drawing a blank? Here's a shot of Richard Wainwrigh...

Idiosyncratic Fashionistas: July 2014

http://idiosyncraticfashionistas.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Just for the fun of it, we decided to dress up as twins, sort of. Readers from waaaaaay back will remember when we got our matching natural colored vintage grass hats and spray painted them red. We returned to the scene of the crime, Vintage Thrift Shop. To memorialize the occasion. Most of the time, our tastes diverge, or coordinate serendipitously, but every now and then we fall in love with the same thing. We had a little fun, and highly recommend it. Sunday, July 27, 2014.

Sunday, June 29, 2014. Adios to the Chelsea Garage Antique Flea Market. When we read in The New York Times' Style Section on Thursday that the Chelsea Antique Garage Flea Market was closing this weekend, we were devastated. For more than two decades, vendors on two floors of a parking garage had provided a treasure trove of antique and vintage clothing, jewelry, art and furniture. We had to go to mark the end of an era. We made it a point to go together on Saturday to say goodbye to our favorite vendors&...

Idiosyncratic Fashionistas: TIME CAPSULE

http://idiosyncraticfashionistas.blogspot.com/2015/07/time-capsule.html

Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Jean is on vacation, so as promised a few weeks ago, Valerie is posting on the time capsule found in her basement. I'm cheating here just a little bit. This post should really begin with the photo below - the one that shows us standing in front of the storage bin - to set the scene. But as you can see, it's a little out of focus, and not above-the-fold material. Okay, scene is set. On with the story. Here's the left pocket:. Here's the right pocket:. I had bought a book on embro...

Sunday, June 28, 2015. The Making of a Mannequin: MAD About Linda Fargo and Mike Evert. We received an email from the Museum of Arts and Design stating that in connection with their current exhibition, Ralph Pucci: The Art of the Mannequin. They were going to have a live demonstration of the art of mannequin making featuring Bergdorf Goodman powerhouse Linda Fargo as the model, with sculptor Michael Evert creating the face. We didn't know what to expect, but it sounded like fun, so off we went. Where we ...

One VO.G.'s Thoughts for the Day. Browsing Places to Go. I remember my Summer Holidays when I was young! Every year my Mum and Dad took my brother Charles and me by car to the seaside. We always went to Cliftonville (near Margate) and stayed at The Cliff Hotel which was a small private hotel owned and run by Mr. and Mrs. Walters. We loved those holidays! Cliftonville had vast sandy beaches and I can still smell the sea! The weather was always good (! Posted under Around Britain. Posted under Places to Go.

One VO.G.'s Thoughts for the Day. When All That’s Left Is Love. If you need to weep. Cry for someone walking the street beside you. You can love me most. By letting hands touch hands,. And Souls touch souls. You can love me most by. Sharing your Simchas (good fortune) and. Multiplying your Mitzvot (good deeds). You can love me most by. Letting me live in your eyes. And not on your mind. And when you say Kaddish (prayers) for me. Remember what our Torah teaches:. So when all that’s left of me is love.

One VO.G.'s Thoughts for the Day. 8220;Lest We Forget” – 11th November. I have been wearing my Adrian Buckley Poppy with pride this week and must say that I am very sad to read that many of our younger generation are oblivious to what this symbolises. The Red Poppy is worn in memory of all our Forces, men and women, who have been killed or injured in defence of this Country. Armistice Day started on 11th November, 1918 at the end of World War I. Coincidentally, my lovely young friend, Alexandra Saul.

Peg, The Accompanying Spouse. A dark tale of vagabondage! Saturday, May 17, 2014. The lanterns in our lobby. One of the lantern entries.completely made of bamboo skewers! The Sri Lankans have their own version of a vuvuzela.nice. It's so melodic, especially at 2:45 am. So what with all these holidays the kids were home Wednesday and Thursday and then the weekend! Too much family time! G and Captain Jacqueline Sparrow. Gratuitous Yoga on the beach shot. How can that be? Fashion Faux Pas or what? So I cons...

Peg, The Accompanying Spouse. A dark tale of vagabondage! Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Do you ever have something you like it but there is just something not exactly right about it? Remember that great messenger bag that I made just before I left Colombo? I always had a feeling(j'ai le feeling) about it and now I know what it is, my bag is covered with pictures of boy bits and bums from all angles! It is most disturbing! I can't wear that! I got enough strikes against me! Monday, June 9, 2014. Crowds of tuktu...

Peg, The Accompanying Spouse. A dark tale of vagabondage! Thursday, July 3, 2014. Think I'll go out to Alberta.". Pretty glorious shot. It's the flag off the Admin building at the U of A. Took N up there to just get feel for the possibility university has. He doesn't have to go to U of A (which he made abundantly clear! But I'm glad he came and saw it anyway. Peg, The Accompanying Spouse. A dark tale of vagabondage! Monday, January 13, 2014. You just never know who'll you'll meet. Was kind of dying of boredom, (of my own company that is )when I decided to go out and just take some photos. Today is a Hindu holiday and tomorrow is a Poya (full moon) day so the streets of town are quite deserted. I have never been able to saunter across Duplication Road! This story however wasn't your usual doctor/lawyer one. His son is Shyam Selvadurai, a well-known Canadia...

Very Old Grandmother - Part 2

http://www.veryoldgrandmother.com/page/2

One VO.G.'s Thoughts for the Day. OPENING OF OLYMPICS: 2012. Congratulations to Danny Boyle for his amazing and unique presentation of the memorable opening to the Olympics. England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were all included in this opening ceremony which had The Queen “parachuting in” with none other than 007 James Bond (alias Daniel Craig)! The highlight for me was when David Beckham came speeding down the Thames at the wheel of that Speed Boat carrying the Olympic Flame on its last journey! So it ...

I Spy with My Idiosyncratic Eye

I Spy with My Idiosyncratic Eye. An Anthology of Life and Me. Labels and Lists, Soul and Self. It's funny how falling ill becomes the pursuit of labels. Labels, boxes, the very things that we seek to shun in most circles become all that define us. We become defined by what we cannot do. Sometimes it's so easy to get bogged down in what we can no longer do that we lose all. Continue Reading →. Click to email (Opens in new window). Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window).
