At the 2012 London Olympic Games, hockey was the third most spectated sport. Men’s Hockey has the fastest swing speed out of any sport, even golf or baseball, at 103mph. IAPS's tournament encourages pupils at Prep schools to develop their skills further in a competitive environment. Former IAPS Basketball competitors now compete for England. A former pupil from Papplewick School who started his career competing at IAPS Basketball tournament, now plays for England in the U16 squad, coached by Pete Daines from Yateley Manor School. The tournament is growing annually and even attracts international IAPS Schools including King’s College Madrid who debuted in 2015! The 2017 U11 competition will take place on Saturday 21 January. U11 and U13 Competition for mixed teams.

IAPS Badminton has been organised since 1976. Since 1976, Badminton has grown in the UK with now more than 10% of the population playing recreationally and/or competitively every week. Badminton has featured in the Olympic Games since 1992, with Great Britain being one of only seven countries to ever stand on the podium. GB won a Bronze medal in 2000 and Silver in 2004, both in mixed doubles. U11 and U13 doubles competition for girls and boys. Double pairs can be boys, girls or mixed.

This is IAPS largest team competition with more than 7000 girls participating annually. IAPS Netball tournament is one of the largest competitions in the annual calendar with more than 700 teams entering the regional qualifiers. Netball is the one of the most popular sports for girls to play in the UK; IAPS tournaments encourage girls to develop essential skills at a young age and are a chance for them to represent their school competitively. All competitors must attend an IAPS School. Posts will be 10ft.

London 2012 showcased some of the most talented athletes on the planet including Peter Wilson, a former IAPS pupil, who won a Gold Medal in the Men’s Double Trap. The longest game of chess was recorded in 1989 in Belgrade, which ended in 269 moves. IAPS Chess tournament has been running since 1972, hosted at various venues around the country including The Dragon School, Edgarley Hall, Stamford, Oakham and Aldro School. The longest chess game theoretically possible is 5,949 moves but with IAPS tournament only on for 3 days - let’s hope none of the games are as long as this! The tournament is hosted over 3 days. All other competitors will play in age group sections.

The National Prep Schools Athletics event is the largest children’s Athletics event in the country! The National Prep Schools Athletics has been organised since 1976! Over 3000 children from 400 Independent Schools compete annually in regional rounds with the hope of qualifying for the National Finals held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. IAPS supports this event which is organised by the National Prep Schools Athletics Committee. Schools must enter a Regional round. Athletics event coming soon.

Malvern College organise the largest Prep Schools Cross Country competition in the UK annually. The National Prep Schools Cross Country event will be held on Sunday 12th March 2017. The event attracts more than 1000 competitors from Independent Schools across the UK. U11 Girls - 2km. U11 Boys - 2.6km. U13 Girls - 2.6km. U13 Boys - 3.2km. Pupils must be at a Prep School in the UK. Schools must enter a team there are no individual entries. The National Governing body is British Athletics.
