Hughes Hill Farms

Monday, July 4, 2011. Things have been pretty busy around here. We've finally finished our first-cut silage - yeah! It was really hard to get enough 2-day weather windows to accomplish that. It's been hard to get good weather windows period this season, though. What a late start and a slow growing season. This time last year we had baby carrots and new potatoes. This year it looks like we're a couple of weeks away from those at this point. Peas - June 24, 2011. Beans June 17, 2011. Saturday, May 14, 2011.

Hughes Hill Farms: March 2010

http://www.hugheshillfarms.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 29, 2010. Out with the old. 2009 financial books that is! Yeah, I finished the books on Friday! Now, to get started on 2010 and do a little bit weekly to keep it manageable - a goal that we will succed in this year! This is the year we plan to finally. Well, our early, beautiful spring weather seems to be taking a break - but, wow, the snow has really disappeared! The kids have their bikes out and are loving it! Hope all is well in everyone's world! Monday, March 22, 2010. Since we don't ha...

Sunday, May 16, 2010. As promised, some (belated) pictures! Grace and Jamie with the new babies! Well, grass cutting season is in full swing and we should have a lot more garden planted than we do, but sometimes things just don't go how you think they might! While the grass is in full swing, temperatures have remained quite cool and while it hasn't been what you may call a "wet spring", it hasn't been a very sunny one either! I'm anticipating a very busy next few weeks! Sunday, May 2, 2010. I can almost ...

Hughes Hill Farms: May 2011

http://www.hugheshillfarms.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 14, 2011. The Circle of Life. I guess it's only fitting that since my last post was about new life on the farm that this one is about death on the farm. Yesterday we lost our dearest and most favourite cow in the barn - Bliss. Bliss was one of the largest and most gentle cows we've ever had. The kids could lie on her back in the stall and she seemed to enjoy it! Bliss and her baby "Pearl". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Promote Your Page Too. The Circle of Life. View my complete profile.

Jen and Derek's Farm Fresh Veggies: 2014 CSA Week #1

http://farmfreshveggies.blogspot.com/2014/06/2014-csa-week-1.html

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. 2014 CSA Week #1. The first CSA delivery of the 2014 season happened today. We have a new location this year for weekly pick-up and I'm very pleased with it. No more having to worry about traffic and high winds off the water. Many thanks to the Spring Park United Church for allowing us to use their parking lot for our CSA pick-up location! It's a very busy time on the farm. We still have alot of seeding to get done as well as try and keep up with the weeds! Follow Me On Twitter.

Jen and Derek's Farm Fresh Veggies: September 2012

http://farmfreshveggies.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Sure was alot of rain over the weekend! The garden was soaked for a few days but was not too bad to work in today. Lovely harvest weather today although the winds this evening were a tad chilly at the Culinary pick-up location. The french breakfast radishes were pristine. I had covered them right after planting with hoops and row covers to ensure "nobody" would munch the leaves making them less than pretty. They looked amazing and are so crisp and tasty! Today's grab boxes&#4...

http://farmfreshveggies.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 23, 2012. 18th CSA Week - It's all over for another season. This weeks final share has carrots, parsnips, beets, bok choy, red scarlet turnips, white hakurei turnips, a pepper (greenhouse), winter squash and leeks. The grab boxes were overflowing and I actually had to leave stuff at home as the truck was completely packed with veggies. I had winter squash jammed in every spare nook and cranny! Here are some pictures to enjoy of the last weeks harvest and farm adventures. We only have thr...

Jen and Derek's Farm Fresh Veggies: July 2014

http://farmfreshveggies.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 6, 2014. Week #2 - Hurricane! This post is really late coming but we have a house full of family, four kids five and under and never ending dishes. Life is good. My sister and her family are visiting us from BC which has meant lots of play time for Ben and Jake. Kids will be kids, gigantic controlled house fire and all they wanted to do was play in the big puddles. Too cute for words that kid. Silly kids at the beach. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Jen and Derek's Farm Fresh Veggies: August 2013

http://farmfreshveggies.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Well, its another dry old week here on the farm. Veggies are still growing, ripening and maturing but plants are also getting rather yellow and new plantings are growing so very slowly. It's amazing actually how well everything is actually doing despite the complete lack of rain. Fingers crossed for some nice soft warm rain in the next few days. Yummy carmen peppers from the greenhouse. So, I have new tool which I am VERY EXCITED. All I do is drive over the bed of carrots with m...

Jen and Derek's Farm Fresh Veggies: 16th CSA Week

http://farmfreshveggies.blogspot.com/2013/10/16th-csa-week.html

Tuesday, October 8, 2013. It was a rather damp start to the day with some interesting windy down pour moments but the skies cleared and it turned into a very lovely day. This weeks large share has carrots, spinach, parsnips, leeks, brussel sprouts, winter squash, tomatoes (so many tomatoes! Ben and Jake showing off the brussel sprouts they helped harvest. It's been an amazing season despite the weather and I'm so lucky to have such a great group of CSA members to share in this crazy farming adventure.
