April 27, 2009. We do it all the time. When we’re judging THINGS because of their packaging, that is one thing. I may have told you this before, but I am a fan of irreverent Christmas Cards. Like this one, with Jesus singing “Happy Birthday to Me”. But they didn’t have a room. Sermons and other ideas from the pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho. Monday, November 23, 2009. A Sermon preached at Southminster. November 22, 2009. Psalm 18:1-6, 16-19, 46-50. But this language can be uncomfortable for those of us who don’t give power to earthly kings. What does it mean for us to declare Christ as King? And to more than declare it—what does it mean for us to live as if that is true? If ideology was behind his horrible actions, then I would argue he should have j...

Remlerville: What's Happening in the Remler Family. Sunday, February 17, 2013. This past weekend, the St. Peter the Apostle 8th grade basketball teams, both boys and girls, traveled to the great state of North Carolina to compete in the Shamrock Basketball Tournament. All weekend, I couldn't help thinking of the beloved 1980's basketball movie, Hoosiers. No, our team did not have gold satin practice uniforms. But thanks to Margaret and Ed Chapman at Bahama Joes,. They did have some really cool cinch sacks.

Where is God in victory and defeat? That’s the question I see in this text and I’ve noticed again and again as we’ve read the Old Testament. Is God with us when we succeed? Is God angry with us when we fail? And is God angry with us when we fail? Most Christians don’t blame entire subgroups of humanity for natural disasters&...

A Sermon preached at Southminster, Dec. 13, 2009. Before we can get to the sweet baby born in a manger, we have to deal with John. People are coming from all over to be baptized by John at the Jordan River. Every church dreams of people coming from all over the county to be baptized, right? And what would we say to those who came to join us? I imag...
