HISTORY: Preserved: Project 52: RATIONING
http://history-preserved.blogspot.com/2014/01/project-52-rationing.html
Preserving history one post at a time. Project 52: Rationing Recipes. Museums and Living History. The War Between Us. Sunday, January 5, 2014. Obviously, I don't live in a world today where rationing is an issue, but I know I can learn a lot by cooking recipes used when rationing was a reality of life. There's nothing like experiencing it first hand instead of just reading about it in a book. Going through my bookshelf I realized that I was sadly lacking in American WWII recipe books, but had quite a num...

Taking our 17thC re-enactment seriously and ourselves not at all. March 20, 2012. Invasion of Newcastle- now with added words! Didn’t we have a lovely day. The day dawned much clearer than the previous Invasion. We made our way in a leisurely fashion to Hornsby station and hooked up with Blue Sue and Spike, the Reverend and Mrs the Reverend. Spike had obtained some artery hardening second breakfast in the form of hot chips, with barely-less-than-solid fat. This was duly passed around. Upon arrival at New...

Taking our 17thC re-enactment seriously and ourselves not at all. Posted by: Wayne Robinson. January 16, 2012. Games – Draughts. The game of Draughts is played on a standard Chessboard. Each player has 12 pieces; the board is placed between the two opponents the same way as for Chess. Black always plays first. Each player’s pieces are placed on the 12 black squares nearest to that player. If more than one piece can capture, then the player is free to choose which of those pieces to move. Similarly, i...

Taking our 17thC re-enactment seriously and ourselves not at all. Posted by: Wayne Robinson. March 1, 2012. Now you have all your new-found board game skills worked out, what do you do with them? Get one of these to play on, obviously. There’s chess on the B side and backgammon inside. Here’s another example. And there are entire sites. Devoted to them. Obviously the flash sets are for the nobs, but let’s have another, closer look at the one the soldiers were playing draughts on from the post. Address ne...

To celebrate one of my favorite holidays I thought I'd post another ration recipe. And there's nothing so American, to me at least, as good old fashioned Meatloaf! I want to acknowledge the champions of liberty-the great philosophers, scholars, visionaries, and statesmen-on whose shoulders we all stand; the hero warriors who gave birth to America and continue to protect her; and the American people, who have contributed so much to mankind. I've done so much historical research lately that I need a place to put it all. It should be fun and interesting. I'm currently writing a novel centered around the Lusitania. So that will be the focus for a little while, unless of course, I find other interesting things as well. You've got to love how the fashion and the times changed from the Titanic.

Evergreen Cemetery Historically Speaking. Sunday, October 24, 2010. A Visit With History. Our year is coming to an end for ECBS. With the weather becoming colder and unpredictable, its difficult to work on the stones.

Episode 73: Anna Komnene, the Princess Historian. Http:/ traffic.libsyn.com/historicallythinking/HT 73 Komnena.mp3. Duration: 49:20 — 45.2MB). Once upon a time, long ago, in a mysterious land far, far away, there was a Princess. But she was not only a Princess. She was also a historian.
