January 13, 2015. Nothing stops my brain cells like birth and new baby. I feel all my creativeness sucked right out of me with the milk. I remember the moment I knew this would be different: sitting on the floor in my room at the midwife clinic, nursing my two-day-old while explaining multiplication tables to my oldest. How far apart these worlds are. The world of school and homework and navigating friendships, and the world of nursing and night-waking and diapers. How will I bridge the gap? Look at those happy faces! Was it school timetables that brought me here? I don’t know...

My metaphorical nightstand, anyway. I actually haven’t had one in years.) How about my experiences with language, and my renewed desire to study kanji? Or schooling children overseas? The culture of Japan? The reasons I’m both sad and happy to live as an expatriate? What about coffee and our inch-by-inch movement toward opening a roaster?

Friday, March 1, 2013. My Flesh and Blood. My blood type was not news to me by any means, since I donated blood regularly while a student in university. Mostly because, though not insanely rare, my blood type is only shared by 3% of Canadians and can be donated to anyone with A or AB /- blood (sorry all you O's and B's, you're out of luck). For both of my previous pregnancies I received a shot. The creepiest part of this drawing are the little Pacmans. Eating away at the sign. My Flesh and Blood.

Thursday, April 25, 2013. My first encounter with this was the extremely quick ultrasounds. Submission has never been one of my strong points, but it turned out that adopting this attitude helped me tremendously during labour and delivery where Dustin and I had no idea what was going on pretty much the whole time and had no input whatsoever.
