High Priority Libav Projects. After Reading Kostya's High Priority Libav Projects. I thought I'd make my own list:. Avprobe compact output: I'd like to see compact tabular output for avprobe -show packets that can easily and quickly glanced over by a human. Avprobe machine readable output: I'd like to see avprobe export data in a standard format well understood by other tools like json rather than the current pseudo-ini format. Auto gain control, arbitrary FIR and IIR filtering. Improved VC-1 decoding: I...

The FFmpeg/Libav situation
http://blog.pkh.me/p/13-the-ffmpeg-libav-situation.html
A small freedom area. Sat 30 Jun 2012. One year and a half ago, an important part of FFmpeg developers decided to change the way the project was managed. This led to some kind of takeover. Mainly to get rid of the old maintainer dictatorship, but also to change development methods, redefine objectives, etc. Then, for various reasons I will quickly explain, these people made a new project called Libav. How are MPlayer, FFmpeg, VLC, libav*, etc connected? And a few tools (. MPlayer is basically a GPL video...

Heisenbugs of a Heisenlife: November 2010

Heisenbugs of a Heisenlife. Ramblings of an uncertain being. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Adding XSUB support to GStreamer. So I have been working on adding XSUB. As a landing task at my new job. Ready to be tested. There are still a few things here and there that might benefit from some tweaking but overall the code does its job and its in dire need of some testing love :) Dunno how long it would take for it to land in -bad but for the time being you can follow current development here. Heisenbugs of a Heisenlife: June 2008
http://heisenbugs.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Heisenbugs of a Heisenlife. Ramblings of an uncertain being. Wednesday, June 4, 2008. Quick tip on encoding video for your iriver E100. So you bought one of these players just to find out that. It supports just a subset. Of MPEG4 SP (strictly speaking it is NOT MPEG4 SP complaint). The bundled movie converter, while based on MPlayer. Let alone the blatant GPL violation (friends at MPlayer/FFmpeg fame says a team of assassins was already dispatched iriver's. Age - you have been warned). Out yesterday....

Saturday, March 31, 2012. MediaWiki; from svn to git and gerrit and a bit of math. Been a while since I wrote here. I wanted to discuss a great change that has come to MediaWiki. And it is the adaptation of Git. Over our old Subversion. System. It has been discussed at length already, but I wanted to discuss the actual switch process and what it meant for me as an individual. Where I'm coming from. First of all, I should clarify that I already used Git quite a bit. We used it within VideoLAN. Mailing lis...

TheDJ writes: Bleeding edge or is it ?
https://thedjwrites.blogspot.com/2012/07/bleeding-edge-or-is-it.html
Sunday, July 29, 2012. Bleeding edge or is it? As most people know, Wikipedia usually runs the bleeding edge code of MediaWiki. Currently new versions are deployed every 2 weeks. This is great, necessary and sometimes annoying for Wikipedians. There is a common complaint that MediaWiki treats Wikipedia as it's experimentation grounds. So how bleeding edge is bleeding edge? Code is deployed almost every 2 weeks, yet HTML5 has been the default for MediaWiki for over 3 years now. To be deployed this summer.

Why you don't want to build your Chromium packages against a system copy of FFmpeg. Why you don't want to build your Chromium packages against a system copy of FFmpeg:. Chromium's internal FFmpeg copy is based on FFmpeg-mt. FFmpeg-mt is an experimental multithreaded branch of FFmpeg. It hasn't been deemed ready to merge into FFmpeg proper. Chromium only uses a subset of FFmpeg functionality and is thus less likely to experience regressions. Chromium's FFmpeg is heavily patched. If you are concerned about...

Spectral Hole: Android's Stagefright AAC Encoder or Reference Code by Any Other Name Would Smell as Sweet

Android's Stagefright AAC Encoder or Reference Code by Any Other Name Would Smell as Sweet. As readers of this blog know, AAC encoding holds a spot close to my heart. I'm responsible for getting the worst AAC encoder of all time included into FFmpeg and was never successful at fixing it. Looking at the source tree there is an immediate resemblance between the 3GPP code and the stagefright code:. Tool to compare content. These tables are used only for counting and are stored in packed format */. Right the...
