In 2012 GEES was told of 150 blind children in a school in Gondar and a similar number shared between the schools at Amba Giorgis and Debark. 65% of them are male. 80% are orphans (abandoned by their families). There were 2 special needs teachers but no dedicated equipment. There are also 40 deaf children.
