Tuesday, November 29, 2011. The End Grain Cutting Board. One of the most important tools for the home cook or Chef is the Chef's knife. Keeping a sharp knife is a matter of safety as much as it is a matter of efficiency. Plastic cutting boards are harder than wood cutting boards and will dull knives much faster than long grain or end grain wood. But is plastic more hygienic than wood? Saturday, December 18, 2010. Reflection on Woodworking class. Friday, December 17, 2010. As an artist dealing with environmental issues, one quickly realizes that what material you choose to make your art out of becomes a major issue. Almost everything we touch today comes from non-environmentally friendly sources. Perhaps, the best way to be an environmentally friendly artist is to just not make art? Woodworking 168: February 2011
http://woodworking168.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 12, 2011. I did a search for notable women woodworkers and chose Judy Kensley McKie partly because there's an extensive and intimate interview online (http:/ www.aaa.si.edu/collections/interviews/oral-history-interview-judy-kensley-mckie-12483) and because her work involved both furniture and sculpture. Also, she started out by studying graphic arts, which personally appealed to me. I also found that her son was murdered senselessly and she used that experience to create a sculpture to...

Thursday, September 30, 2010. An artist's responsiblity to entertain. The biggest problem I had with the Zero 1 Festival, was the often lumbering and awkward presentation that kept cropping up. Even professor Wright, a woman who willingly went to Finland in winter -thus a proven tolerance for slowly paced days- complained about dullness of many of the speakers. However, I think it safe to say that art, well, should. Afford to assume their audience is educated and patient, they can not afford to drone.
