About | orange afternoon lover
https://orangeafternoonlover.wordpress.com/about-2
My name is Leah McMenamin Conte and I currently live in New Jersey, USA (by way of New Zealand, Australia, South East Asia and Ethiopia). I am a writer, editor, and, most importantly, a lover of words. I contribute weekly to the Tuesday Poem. A collective of poets who share poems either they or someone who inspires them have written. It’s lots of fun. Besides pie, I also love reading in the sun, simple dessert recipes, overweight and lazy Labradors, my husband, and knitting. One response to “ About.

Tuesday Poem: ‘Eater of Crayfish’ by Janet Frame. December 10, 2012. Commonplace, divine, bald, at home,. Licking day-long breath from the walls of his air-cell. He will eat the crayfish green-garnished in its blush of dying,. Burned, like love, in and beyond the salt element. He will taste the embarrassment of dying,. Tear off the livid armour hiding the bloodless flesh,. Destroy the cable laid along the sea-bed. Communicating bloom of excrement. His left hand love, his right hand hate, he will take.

Tuesday Poem: ‘Dinner With The Cannibal’ by Witi Ihimaera. April 1, 2013. Of course I should have realized, at dinner. That he would be a man of special tastes. His mordant wit and intellect proclaimed him bon vivant. I suppose I was bedazzled by it all. The chandelier, the red roses like stigmata. Too flattered by the invitation. To notice that the table was laid only for hors d’oeuvres. It was understood of course that I was privileged to be there. With him in dinner jacket and black bow tie. He was a ...

Tuesday Poem: ‘Sea Fever’ by John Masefield. January 7, 2013. I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,. And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,. And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,. And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking. I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide. Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;. And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,. Leave...

Striving to be a Voice of Light. Closing Day: Treasures Galore. December 1st, 2011. Our trip came to a close with a day spent at the British Museum, a storehouse of treasures that we thoroughly enjoyed. It is utterly mind-bending to actually see the ancient treasures that you have studied for so long and with so much interest! There was the Egypt collection…. The fantastic Greek exhibit…. The Mesopotamian exhibit - I think this was my personal favorite. The Black Obelisk of Shalmaneser III. When we left ...
