Monday, October 25, 2010. Jonas, a twelve year-old boy, is perfectly content in his seemingly perfect community until he is assigned the task of becoming the memory keeper for the community. He is given wonderful memories of color, family love, and nature, and terrible memories of war, pain, and hunger. These new insights allow him to see his own family, friends, and community in a new light. What would happen if someone disliked their assignment? Where were the people released to? Higher Power of Lucky.

I love my library card.: My Woodson Experience
http://salenabooks.blogspot.com/2010/11/my-woodson-experience.html
I love my library card. Saturday, November 6, 2010. I have read one of Jacqueline Woodson’s books, The House You Pass on the Way. But, I have also experienced a thoughtful discussion about the other books she has written. She has quite a few similarities in her writings. The one that I found most common was an interracial relationship in the majority of her books. And going off that idea, she frequently has characters that are multiracial. When her characters are multiracial, she does not keep this hidden.

Saturday, November 6, 2010. Illustrated by Hudson Talbott. This story traces the author’s family back to times of slavery. It shows each generation passing down the art of creating show quilts, and each person remaining strong, loving, and creative despite the difficulties of slavery, working hard to earn a living, and fighting for civil rights. The story ends with the author telling her own daughter the history of her family. This book was definitely a window book for me. Illustrated by Michael Spoon.
