Every player owns at least one planet. They can use it as their own personal sandbox, or create gameplay for others to explore. Initially, planet is generated procedurally. From there, you can change parameters affecting the heightmap, or parameters affecting colorization of the landscape. Once generated, plants and vegetation is distributed automatically across the planet. You will most likely tweak and change the weather and lighting next, and color and shine of water surface. The Building system in Traverse is one of the key features being developed. You can build a house, castle, tent or a futuristic skyscraper. The first step in building is to create a Blueprint. Traverse crafting system is based on mixing materials to produce desired output. You can craft anything you have materials for. You begin by choosing what you want created, or by choosing crafting materials you currently have. In either case, all possible options or requirements are shown. This makes it very easy to discover purpose of the crafting material you just looted, or specific requirements for item you want to create.

Traverse universe is made up of many player-created planets. You can view a list of all available planets, and teleport wherever you want to go. This teleportation is subject to cooldown, and each use costs a few game coins. You can sort planets based on number of visitors, overall number of visits, rating of the planet, or mob levels. While flying, you are effectively browsing planets that are out there, waiting to be explored. Planets that are marked as ‘Private’ by their owner, will not be visible.

There are six classes that players can select from when they create a new character: Priest, Mage, Barbarian, Knight, Assassin and Ranger. All trading in Traverse is facilitated by Trading Post. On the marketplace, you either trade instantly, or by creating listings. When you want to buy something instantly, item will come from someone else’s For Sale listing. When you want to sell something instantly, it will be sold to someone else’s Wanted listing. All items that can be looted have a reusable value - if, at least, it is to break it down into reusable materials. There are two currencies in use in Traverse: game coins, and cash coins.
