Stop and Smell the Lichen. Follow me on Twitter. Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Galena Flood reflief fund raising. Please take a few moments to say a prayer for those that are impacted by the flooding of the small Alaskan town of Galena. We in Alaska are very tightly bound to each other and when nature causes tragedy we find a way to help each other out. This spring is bringing many natural disasters across America, but some are small and don't make the national news; though they are just as devastating. I fou...

Stop and Smell the Lichen. Follow me on Twitter. Friday, March 22, 2013. Yes it is that time of the year! The ptarmigan have blanketed our area heralding the coming of spring. Much more reliable than any ground hog. They usually show up right before the willow start to bud. Be aware that I don't really measure things so you will have to use a bit of common kitchen sense and adjust to your own tastes and requirements. 3-4 ptarmigan cleaned and cut into bit sized pieces. A few strips of really good bacon.

Stop and Smell the Lichen. Follow me on Twitter. Saturday, February 23, 2013. What makes me Inupiaq? What makes me Inupiaq? I think about this question a lot. It is a key player in my inner battles of self doubt and identity. A weak brick in the foundations of Me. But is being Inupiaq just blood quantum? Inupiaq meant more than having just the blood quantum. But eventually I realized that this view was ever only created by me, this self flagellation. Are there different levels of being Inupiaq? Why are w...

Stop and Smell the Lichen. Follow me on Twitter. Saturday, November 30, 2013. Chick-cicles and warmish Holidays. Well the chickens are NOT quite chick-cicles. The Holidays have rolled around and we are are pretty much relieved to see the cold weather show up and stay for good after the odd unseasonably warm and wet winter start. We finished the changes to make the coop more winter resistant and I thought I would post what I am doing in that department. Not to have to buy eggs anymore! I bought a microwav...

Newer posts →. Just because it’s cute! July 2, 2015. This picture doesn’t go with anything else, but I still think it’s ridiculously cute. Paige made moustaches and goatees out of paper that she somehow convinced both Hanna and Davin to tape to their faces….Davin’s moustache has to be my favourite! So here’s a picture just because:). A couple of day trips! July 2, 2015. In my attempt to catch up on posts, I’m going to put a couple of day trips we did together back in May. Hiking up the hill. June 22, 2015.

Finally finished |
https://noinvitationrequired.wordpress.com/2015/07/31/finally-finished
Keeping busy for the last couple of weeks! July 31, 2015. I have quite a list of things that I need to get done before we moved (packers are here two weeks from Tuesday – YIKES! And on my list was to finish the mitts that I started over a year ago – I was determined to get them done so that I could wear them this winter. So I got down to business and am so happy to finally have them done – and I’m pretty happy with the result! View all posts by Lindsay →. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Tales fro...

The end of another school year. Canada Day →. Water Bombers in Stony. July 4, 2015. To have front row seats! By the end of the afternoon they had the fire out, the air strip re-opened, and the town relieved! The water bomber coming over our house to the water at the back. View from the docks as the planes come in. The break in the trees right below the plane is our house! My favourite picture of them all – the kids were mesmerized! The whole town came out to see the action! The end of another school year.

Burr Falls |
https://noinvitationrequired.wordpress.com/2015/07/21/burr-falls
When the fish aren’t biting….go play in the mud! July 21, 2015. Two weekends ago we went for a boat ride to check out Burr Falls – waterfalls that are about a 40 minute boat ride away from Black Lake. We had some boat trouble that left us convinced we were going to have to paddle our way back to Black Lake (which would have taken MUCH longer than 40 minutes! But once he problem was figured out, we had smooth sailing for the rest of the day – once again, a fantastic day exploring! July 22, 2015 at 3:34 am.
