Birding in and around Oxford. Wednesday, 27 May 2015. As May draws to a close it signals the start of the summer doldrums when the birding gets hard. In fact things had been positively dire on my local patch at Port Meadow. And walked along the track, under the railway and down the farm track to the river. Here I found the old brick railway bridge that I recognised from photos. What a last-gasp stroke of luck! A freshly emerged Common Club-tailed working it's way up the bridge embankment. How wrong I was!

I popped into the reserve centre for my £3.90 entrance ticket and whom should I bump into but Oxon birder Justin Taylor, down for a quick twitch himself - what a small world! The Twitch Arena - the bird tended to hang out to the back left of the clear patch in front of the reeds. The 1st winter Siberian Stonechat. Wednesday, 22 October 2014.
