Garden Inspiration | Merry Magpie Farm
https://merrymagpiefarm.com/2015/07/21/garden-inspiration
Adventures in Mini Farming. July 21, 2015. When we were in Europe one thing I really enjoyed was all the green space. There were public parks full of trees, herbs, and blooming flowers, even in chilly Scotland. The open air markets all sold fresh-cut flowers and herbs and it was a delight to the senses. Maddie and I noticed especially in France that it seemed as though everyone was walking around with a fresh baguette and an armful of flowers. Flowers at Holyrood gardens in Edinburgh. Swimmy Days →.

Adventures in Mini Farming. Of Gardens And Sewing. July 29, 2015. I did get several jars of green beans canned, and a good dozen or so jars of pickles made. I picked lots and lots of zucchini. I got three butternut squash, one field pumpkin, and four delicious cantaloupes (we are SO growing those again next year! There are two watermelons looking pretty decent still out there, and many, many large tomatoes waiting to turn red. And double down on the diatomaceous earth and Neem oil early on. Three big dog...

Adventures in Mini Farming. Sun – Drenched Solstice. June 21, 2016. We celebrated with fresh-picked peaches, berries, our first pesto of the year, and s’mores. Aren’t they just little globes of sunshine? Speaking of sunshine….my sunflowers are starting to bloom! The berries are really starting to come in now. I’ve been putting at least as many directly into my mouth as into the basket as I pick them! Peach slushies are a must! Post-dinner wine for me, s’mores for the kids. December 22, 2015. Last night w...
Trips | Merry Magpie Farm

Adventures in Mini Farming. August 12, 2016. There have been several escapes going on here lately. Firstly, the unintended escape from this blog I apparently had! I have no real excuse, other than it’s summer, and busy, and yet somehow lazy at the same time. Have you ever been to an escape room? Book club weekend in Virginia Beach! Believe it or not, my camera didn’t come out with me this time. I felt the pictures were getting redundant, and I always worry about sand and saltwater getting in it...Yes, sh...

Adventures in Mini Farming. August 25, 2016. Have I mentioned how obsessed with. We all are around here? It’s been the only music played at home and in the cars for months now. We’ve also devoured the book. And though we haven’t actually seen the play, it feels like we know it cold. Oona was happy to be Peggy (I don’t know, I kind of thought no one would want poor Peggy’s part), so Neve is going as Angelica. I’m halfway through. So much sewing, so little time. Start with the soundtrack. August 24, 2016.
Buffalo Cauliflower | Merry Magpie Farm
https://merrymagpiefarm.com/2015/07/14/buffalo-cauliflower
Adventures in Mini Farming. July 14, 2015. Yes, I am posting a blog this evening about snack food. During the last share-dyeing marathon, our friend Trina made me a big batch of Buffalo Cauliflower. Have you seen it? I’ve noticed it here and there on Pinterest and Facebook, but I’d never tried it. I was afraid I’d be disappointed, and then I’d want to make a big batch of Buffalo wings, and that just wouldn’t do my waistline any good. But my friends, hear me: Buffalo Cauliflower is gooooooood. Then I spre...
Scout Day! | Merry Magpie Farm
https://merrymagpiefarm.com/2015/07/18/scout-day
Adventures in Mini Farming. July 18, 2015. I got to have a pretty perfect day yesterday. We finally managed to get our schedules to align, and Lisa, Trina, Brittney, Jenn, and Susan all met here so we could ooh and aah over Scout! Just look at that cutie! Oona was thrilled because Lisa brought Alston along to swim. Neve and Emily hung around for all the food we had out. The rest of us were just so happy to be in each others’ company again and get some baby cuddles while we were at it. You are commenting ...
August Again | Merry Magpie Farm
https://merrymagpiefarm.com/2015/08/05/august-again
Adventures in Mini Farming. August 5, 2015. There’s something about August. I want it to be all about enjoying the last month of summer, of no school, of swimming. I want it to be about never-ending fresh garden tomatoes and basil. I’m starting to get lots of monster-sized “German Johnson” heirloom tomatoes out of the garden. The basil looks just awful, and I may have to harvest it out and make pesto a few weeks earlier than usual. The tomatoes that we are not eating right away are getting slow roasted f...
