ExpreSERVE

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. One of the most rewarding aspects of each project trip is seeing or meeting the people that our designs will directly impact. The Peopl. E are ultimately why we do this work. The reality is that the buildings will eventually turn to dust (if they are even built)…but our influence on people (and theirs on us) could last an eternity. For this reason, the IAA project trip was a unique blessing. For the first time, I was on a site with children! A lot of English-speaking children!

ExpreSERVE: November 2014

http://www.expreserve.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 18, 2014. This past weekend was EMI's annual Association of Christian Design Professionals conference. Every year it is held in a difference city across the country, but I had the great luck of being in Colorado Springs the year it is held in Colorado Springs! I guess we should all be more aware of our surroundings…that creeps me out! I will be reading this soon as I am so excited to hear more about Islamic culture in the midst of so much news on ISIS and the Middle East.

ExpreSERVE: EMI + Bongolo

http://www.expreserve.blogspot.com/2015/03/emi-bongolo.html

Sunday, March 1, 2015. The first leg of this project trip was spent in LeBamba, Gabon at. Overall, the travel time to Bongolo was about 3 days. On the way to Lebamba we stopped at a pastor's house in. Lambaréné for lunch. They fed us omelets, tomatoes, baguettes, and mysterious local fruits that were far too sour to eat! The team discussing master planning with two of the surgeons. March 2, 2015 at 5:11 AM. Looks amazing and exhausting! What is the native language? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://www.expreserve.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 6, 2013. With A Vision Comes Provision. So far most of my posts have been about the cultural experiences in Uganda, but now I will share about the design work we did *for those of you interested in architecture*. However, as always, God was a step ahead. In the past, YWAM had been approached by different groups and organizations interested in holding events at the existing YWAM conference center, only to be turned away because there was no room [ in the inn.get it? We interviewed Rose and...

ExpreSERVE: October 2014

http://www.expreserve.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 26, 2014. Sustainability in the Developing World. In the architecture community today, sustainability is one of the biggest buzzwords you will hear. Both designers and clients are obsessed with making buildings Green. So I started reading Sustainability and Scarcity: A handbook for green design and construction in developing countries. The following is what I gathered from this book and my knowledge of EMI to answer this question. One definition of sustainability is "to maximize human wel...

Further Information About EMI. November 9, 2012. I expected that when I came to Africa, everything would be different. I expected to experience culture shock. I expected moments of ‘what the heck did they just say? What I didn’t expect was for this to happen with my Australian roommates – or as they would say: housemates. Further Information About EMI. September 12, 2012. WARNING: this post may be nerdy and technical. Proceed at your own risk. Thanks Rose (our fantabulous team leader) for letting me adapt her blog post. Most of this awesomeness was written by her. One of my favorite parts of EMI project trips is connecting with the local people in the ministries we serve, in this case, the students of Daystar. At the student led chapel on Sunday, Information Technology student Grace shared this original composition. Note:...

https://mzungulissa.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/football-season-modified

Further Information About EMI. October 30, 2012. As the Crimson Tide rolls toward National Championship No. 15, I’m in Africa learning about the rest of the world’s football. Here are a few photos of our fall football season Saturday a few weeks ago in Kampala. A big thanks to Semei (one of the EMI local staff) for taking all of us! We go, we go, Uganda Cranes we go! Tailgating at our compound before the match. The whole gang amped up to beat Zambia. Yes, it was just as intense and awesome as it looks.
