The Power of Support. July 7, 2010. Posted by amarkon in Brazil. So, where did we leave off? I had been fortunate to have had contact with these people two years ago during an internship related to my master’s degree. This meant that I arrived in Brazil already knowing that I’d be treated well, but I just could not imagine how nice people would actually be during my stay. It was incredible! This hospitality was everywhere, including at the Secretariat of Health. Just do an image search for. Pão de queijo,.

How to describe ten months? July 2, 2012. Posted by Georgia Ennis in Ecuador. 1 comment so far. Have I represented my program and myself well? Has this time made some sort of difference? I hope so, but I can’t be sure. What I can be sure of is how I have been shaped and changed by this experience. It has not always been easy, and as a result I have grown more flexible, independent, and patient. As discussed in a previous post. This slideshow requires JavaScript. April 19, 2012. There and Back Again. September 17, 2012. Posted by ellaweber in Individual Fellowship. Be how research worked, but I had this romantic vision of a sudden assimilation and active role in town life nonetheless. Furthermore, I thought it would be easy. I’ve always considered myself to be fairly independent, someone who solves problems well, and in doing so have taken for granted all the help my professors at the university have offered me. September 5, 2012. Posted by Nazneen Uddin in Luce. Eid prayer at National Mosque. I am distracted by the young woman in front of me wearing a beautiful red sari, speaking to her friend in Tamil. I turn to my left, and see a mother speaking to her son in Mandarin, while on my right, I hear a woman in a pink headscarf speaking Malay on the phone. When I reach my stop, I pass by a hawker stand and smell the aroma of fresh. Fried Chinese noodles, and an array of colorful Malay sweets. Chinese New Year lights.

August 6, 2012. Posted by claass in Graduate. The Hajj pilgrimage is the largest gathering of human beings on the planet and represents one of the most challenging system design problems seriously undertaken by architects. Participation has exploded from 80,000 pilgrims in 1900 to almost 3 million in 2008. Essentially the population of Chicago simultaneously lands in the desert every year, only to disappear five days later. Photo: Arab News, Hajj Photo Gallery 1432 2011. Houten – A City for Cyclists. July 22, 2010. Posted by Dana Petit in Denmark. While in the Netherlands and Denmark, I visited a variety of sites and towns that provided cyclists with better-than-average everyday biking experiences. This isn’t difficult in two countries that pride themselves on the comfort and convenience of their bike infrastructure. The sites I visited ranged from suburban residential neighborhoods to downtown commercial streets and everything in-between. June 28, 2010. I’m traveling (b...

Guest commentary: Detroiter begins Kenya expedition. February 17, 2011. Posted by Anna Clark in Fulbright. As a 30-year-old who chose to move to Detroit from Boston three years ago, I’m constantly asked, with varying degrees of bewilderment, Why? The short answer: I want to live in a city that is in the making, rather than one that is already made. While I’m fond of Boston, it’s a city that is overly comfortable in its habits, with little room to re-imagine how things are done. And this, too, is why I ha...
