ESL Tool box, full of games activities and tips on teaching. Screen Casting in Second Life. As of today I have started thinking about effective learning tools for online language learning. With a focus toward communicative competence. A very broad focus I know, but here, I intend to document my progress. The outcome will hopefully be a template for an online English learning. Course for future use. I’m very aware that technologies change day-to-day in the online world. I know other SL members regularly r...

Some thoughts on language learning and web 2.0. Ways to use blogs in language learning. I’ve been investigating different ways to use blogs for language learning. Here follow some uses identified by Campbell (2003) and Murray and Hourigan (2008):. 1) The tutor blog: for reading practice; provides links for further reading; gives class information, and links for self-study. ( Ruby’s OLL blog. Is a good example.). Campbell, A. (2003). Weblogs for Use with ESL Classes. The Internet TESL Journal. You are com...

Sunshine. | Meanwhile in China
https://thelifeandlunchtimesofdorothybath.wordpress.com/2013/06/08/448
Get me outta here! June 8, 2013. Do you notice anything strange about this picture? Anything, anything at all? It might not strike you right away. How about this one? Maybe you are thinking there is nothing strange about these pictures except that they’re kind of boring, just random Chinese people walking around enjoying the sunshine. What’s the big deal about that? No matter how many times I have tried to teach them the word tan it never sticks. I’m clearly an awful teacher. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

https://languagelearningonline.wordpress.com/2011/01/27/some-thoughts-on-wiki-creation-and-assessment
Some thoughts on language learning and web 2.0. Some thoughts on wiki creation and assessment. Just came across this teacher-support site. Which lists a number of questions to be asked before using a wiki with your students. I think this provides a really useful framework to start thinking about how to construct the wiki. How do you envision using the wiki? Who will be able to see the wiki? Who will be able to edit the wiki? Who will be able to join the wiki? Who will have the ability to reset changes?

Some thoughts on language learning and web 2.0. 8220;with the blog you can take your time, whereas with face to face you have to think on the spot. Often by the time I worked out what I wanted to say in class the discussion had moved on or someone stole my idea.”. Interestingly, Miceli et al. also reported that, at the other end of the spectrum, ‘the four who made the fewest contributions to the blog were students who consistently participated actively in in-class discussion’. “Oh Chai-ner” | Meanwhile in China
https://thelifeandlunchtimesofdorothybath.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/oh-chai-ner
Get me outta here! 8220;Oh Chai-ner”. June 10, 2013. I feel like so far I might have been a little negative in this blog, partly because I have always found that what went wrong stories are much more interesting than what went right stories. I do really enjoy living here so this post is all about my favourite Chinese things. They are not numbered by preference rather by the order they occur to me. Oh KTV, shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? I will definitely miss KTV when I leave China. My chopsticks...

Some thoughts on language learning and web 2.0. Blogs and wikis: improving language fluency. I’ve read a couple of interesting studies this morning into how blogs and wikis can be used to improve writing fluency and learner motivation. So, it seems that wikis and blogs excel at providing an informal, student-centred environment in which students can focus on language fluency, self-expression, and collaborative learning, without the pressure of producing grammatically perfect text. A Place for ESL Students. Verbal Adjectives in Action. July 25, 2013. Today I would like to present a common mistake made by some ESL students, and that is the misuse of verbal (or participial) adjectives. Let me give an example. One day, when I was in college, my friend from Japan walked over to me and complained, “. I’m so boring! 8221; I smiled and told her she was. Boring and that I found her to be an interesting person.
