It is rather difficult to express the feelings that visitors may have when visiting Langeais for the first time. This castle recalls the Middle Ages with its outstanding tapestry collection, furniture, large fireplaces.

Châteaux de la Loire. Map of Loire Valley. The present castle overlooking the River Loire with majesty is now so far different from the one built in the Middle Ages. As a matter of fact, Louis XI entirely destroyed the castle by setting fire. Chaumont was only rebuilt in the late 15th century. Though looking like a fortress, the castle is spectacularly sited : overlooking the River Loire, lying at the heart of peaceful parkland and delightful gardens.

Châteaux de la Loire. Map of Loire Valley. Known as the "Cradle of the French Renaissance". Charles VIII was just back from the Italian campains when he decided to decorate the castle in the Italian Renaissance style. Unfortunately, he died on 7th April 1498. As he was on the way to attend a tennis game ("Jeu de Paume"), his head hit the lintel of a low doorway. He died a few hours later. The Court was absolutely devastated! Known as "Cloux" up to the 18th century. The Pagoda of Chanteloup.

Henri III murdered here the Duke Henri de Guise on 23rd December 1588. Catherine de Medici died in the castle a few days later. However, Blois was not only the scene of bloody France History. The famous poet Pierre de Ronsard met first Cassandre when attending a ball in the castle.

It was here, on 4th July 1189, that the "Peace Treaty of Colombier" was signed. Colombier was the former name of Villandry. Philippe Auguste defeated Henri II Plantagenêt.

A su regreso de las compañas de Italia, el joven Carlos VIII decidió decorar su castillo en el estilo Renacentista italiano. Desgraciadamente, será víctima de un accidente tan absurdo como estúpido : el 7 de abril de 1498, participó en una partida del juego de pelota y se dió un cabezazo contra el dintel de una puerta baja. Murió algunas horas más tarde, sumergiendo a la corte en una confusión total.
