The small lake is glacier-fed and has a lovely blue-green colour as a result. You can also rent canoes from hotel's docks, which is what we did this trip. Canoeing Around Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Jackfish Lake is located about 60km west of Edmonton, just south of Highway 16 off Secondary Highway 770. This is a small lake (about 2 km of surface area) with lots of bays. The size and shape seems to keep the waves down. Public access is on the east side of the lake and includes a nice boat launch, lots of parking, washrooms and picnic site. The county dings you $20 to gain access to the launch and the parking. Canoeing Around Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Thursday, June 30, 2011. Slow start to the season. A shoulder injury (ironically from too much working out this winter to be better prepared for summer activities) has sidelined my canoeing partner so we won't be getting out much this year. I do expect we'll have a few updates over the summer and I'll take my camera along when we visit canoeing spot with our bicycles. This has, however, meant much more time for gardening. And the yard looks fantastic!
