Requested: Handwritten form of 喜 - Naruhodo なるほど
http://naruhodo.weebly.com/1/post/2011/11/requested-handwritten-form-of.html
Naruhodo なるほど. Requested: Handwritten form of 喜. In my very first post I wrote about special Japanese birthdays. The one on the bottom left might pass as 七十七. It is of course also important to realize that the author of the source I used might be way off, and that the reason for calling the 77th birthday 喜寿 might be something completely different. Nevertheless, the picture is uploaded and you can judge for yourselves. Kodama, Kota. Kuzushiji Yorei Jiten. Tokyo: Kondo shuppansha, 1980. A Man with Tea.

Naruhodo なるほど. I had originally planned to write a post collecting various links to sites about Japan, but came to the conclusion that it would be better to have a separate page dedicated to links that I could update whenever I want to. I haven't added too much at the point of writing this, but make sure you check it out. Contact. Me if you have any interesting links to share or if you want your own site linked to. Your comment will be posted after it is approved. A Man with Tea. Eye on East Asia.

Tadoku 4 Report | 我輩はブリートである。
https://burritolingus.wordpress.com/2011/11/01/tadoku-4-report
The chronicles of Burrito's bizarre adventure into Japanese. Leave a comment ». But you know what? That little fucker earned his keep all the same. Let’s go over my reading list and see what I got around to. I’m gonna color code it a little something like this:. Green: Read to completion! Yellow green: Read partially, but a satisfactory enough chunk. Red: Didn’t touch at all. Blue: A NEW CHALLENGER HAS APPEARED. Berserk (think I read three volumes, the last of which was WORDS WORDS WORDS). Simply put, Ev...

Back on Track | 我輩はブリートである。
https://burritolingus.wordpress.com/2012/02/28/back-on-track
The chronicles of Burrito's bizarre adventure into Japanese. It’s probably no secret by now that my progress over the past some months has been… a slow trickle. A drizzle, even. Wasn’t a whole lot of fun. Out there who can transcend these distractions of life and carry on with studying as usual: I envy the heck out of you, and I have quite a ways to go. To translate and people to communicate with, dammit. Still, I have some issues to work out. I have a serious “three-day monk”. Also, Ankidroid is pretty ...

Incremental New Cards: The Result | 我輩はブリートである。
https://burritolingus.wordpress.com/2010/08/05/incremental-new-cards-the-result
The chronicles of Burrito's bizarre adventure into Japanese. Incremental New Cards: The Result. So my latest experiment ended at a 10-day streak – that’s exactly 20 new cards per day, for those of you keeping score at home! But 20 per day was the figure I had initially planned on ramping my daily reviews up to. What does this mean for my little experiment? Well, it means a few things. So, what have I decided to do now that my streak has ended? Would I recommend this experiment to others? Perhaps. If ...

The sleepy, lazy month of November | 我輩はブリートである。

The chronicles of Burrito's bizarre adventure into Japanese. The sleepy, lazy month of November. Leave a comment ». Nearing the end of October, it was pretty clear that I was due for some good ol’ fashioned lazy-time. Worn out from Tadoku and with a number of anticipated games on the horizon, a period of kickin’ back and gettin’ lazy widdit was all but inevitable. I just didn’t expect it to last an entire. A dedicated day of anime. I’m gonna give Saturday. A shot and see how it works out. Laquo; Tadoku 4...

Asia Shock: November 2014
http://asiashock.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 30, 2014. Pat's Picks: Samurai on hulu. Here are some fabulous samurai films I was surprised to find on hulu plus. Most, if not all, are reviewed in my books):. Excellent, warts-and-all portrayal of the notorious pro-shogunate ronin militia and their bloody hijinks during the Bakumatsu period. Toshiro Mifune doing Cyrano. A classic. The Secret of the Urn. Great Gosha treatment of crazy one-eyed, one-armed ronin Tange Sazen (wonderfully portrayed by Kinnosuke Nakamura). Hunter in the Dark.

http://asiashock.blogspot.com/2014/09/oldboy-2013.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Here there be spoilers*. How do you remake a film like Oldboy. As I noted in Asia Shock. In 2006, it was already a plan in Hollywood back then. It took awhile, but it finally got made, albeit to little fanfare and critical ambivalence. What do I think? Well I’ll tell you …. In preparation for my own review, I re-watched Park Chan-wook’s original Oldboy. As someone noted here. The two biggest weaknesses of the 2013 Oldboy. October 1, 2014 at 3:20 PM. Asia Shock: April 2014
http://asiashock.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 16, 2014. OK, there will be spoilers. If you haven’t seen Takashi Miike’s remake of Harakiri. 2011) by now, but plan to and don’t want to know how he handles it, stop reading right now, because the big problem I have with the film is the ending. If you’ve seen the original 1962 version by Masaki Kobayashi, you know that this is a gut-wrenching tale of misery, degradation, cruelty and revenge. It’s also the ultimate fuck you.
