THE RATCHFORDS

Life in a northern town. Monday, April 22, 2013. In Alaska, there is a word for this time of year. This awkward time of year when the cumulation of seven months' worth of snow and ice begin to melt, revealing layers of road salt and gravel and people's long forgotten debris. When Alaska seems to be shyly hiding her true beauty behind a thick layer of grey and grit. Alaskans call it "breakup.". My first Alaskan breakup happens to be a most bitter one. My marriage of 15 years. But experiencing my first Ala...

THE RATCHFORDS: June 2012
http://sixsmellyknackers.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Life in a northern town. Monday, June 18, 2012. Since our move coincided with Liam's birthday (again! We decided to have his birthday party the day after school was out. He invited some friends over to hang out, eat pizza and grasshopper pie, and go see "Madagascar 3." I am really loving these low-key birthday parties! We went to City Creek and decided that it is definitely worth a trip back without six kids! The Gateway fountains are probably what my kids picture heaven to be like. Friday afternoon they...

THE RATCHFORDS: February 2012
http://sixsmellyknackers.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Life in a northern town. Wednesday, February 22, 2012. To celebrate Love Day this year, we had our traditional "Fancy Dinner" and chocolate fondue fountain. And "Stop dripping chocolate all over everything! On second thought, I think I'll just be happy with the above pictures, which portray (albeit falsely) five loving, happy, peaceful children in the midst of making a childhood memory. Happy Birthday to Me and Wrassling. I was spoiled yet again by this awesome family of mine. Having Halle, Kael, and bab...

Life in a northern town. Friday, October 28, 2011. On our way home Sunday, we made a little detour in Northeast Wyoming to see Devil's Tower and hike around the base of this awesome National Monument (the very first one! It was a definite highlight of this trip, and Garreth's favorite thing we did that weekend. We couldn't have asked for more beautiful fall weather. It was such a cool place. Now we need to rent "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and say "we've been there! Thursday, October 27, 2011.

Life in a northern town. Friday, November 11, 2011. I know I'm a little biased, but how really really ridiculously good-looking are these kids? GRACE, age 11. LIAM, age 9. SAM, age 6. DECLAN, age 4. Wednesday, November 9, 2011. This year all the Ratchford boys were the Avengers, and Grace and I were 80's girls. (She and I had a blast shopping for our costumes, but she kept telling me I was wrong about some things, that people really didn't wear those. In the 80's. Right. Because what would I. To enjoy go...

Life in a northern town. Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Having a cowgirl grandma is the best. PS My parents have kind of a pretty backyard :). When I was in high school, I couldn't wait to get as far away from this place as I could. Can you believe that? After living away for so long and living in so many different places, I realize how lucky I am to be from such a beautiful valley and I'm jealous of my friends and family who still get to call this home. The back of my grandparents' farm in Whitney. My sis...
