One Last Cast: Des Plaines River Kayak Pike Fishing II
http://onecast.blogspot.com/2014/08/des-plaines-river-kayak-pike-fishing-ii.html
A journal of my fishing trips, mostly around the western suburbs of Chicago. Saturday, August 9, 2014. Des Plaines River Kayak Pike Fishing II. Returned to fish the Des Plaines River for pike for the first time this year. I met up with Chunsum. A little further downriver, Dan hooked up with one of four pike he would catch on the day. He caught most of his pike on a Storm Thunderstick. Expert tip: Always hold the fish as close to the camera as possible to make it look bigger. Worthy. I had strikes on ...

One Last Cast: LaSalle Lake Big Blue Cat
http://onecast.blogspot.com/2014/03/lasalle-lake-big-blue-cat.html
A journal of my fishing trips, mostly around the western suburbs of Chicago. Friday, March 21, 2014. LaSalle Lake Big Blue Cat. The next hour was great fishing and I ended up catching four more hybrids and a couple more smaller blue catfish. I shot a little video showing that it can be a little difficult to be fishing for both hybrids and blue catfish at the same time while the bite is hot, it is best to stay a little closer to your catfish rod than I was. Fish caught: Hybrid Striper - 5. Blue Catfish - 3.

Bassin' The Midwest: October 2012
http://bassinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 29, 2012. October Behemoth and the Bassin' the Midwest Prize Pack! It is creeping closer and closer to hard water season and the dropping temperatures are definitely putting the pressure on to get the last bass of the season. At the start of the challenge I had a total of 664 smallmouth and largemouth.now being October 29th, I have a grand total of 684. Only 20 bass in the last couple of weekends.so you know that this weather has definitely put a limitation on my catching. First cast, let...

http://onecast.blogspot.com/2014/03/lasalle-slow-evening.html
A journal of my fishing trips, mostly around the western suburbs of Chicago. Friday, March 28, 2014. Tried the south bank of LaSalle this evening. Winds were not as strong as forecast, no signs of shad in the area, and a rising barometer, a bad combo. Barely avoided the skunk with a small channel cat on a nightcrawler. Weather: Mostly Cloudy, N winds 0-10mph, low 40's. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Pondboy's Angling Experience -DA ProStaff. First Fish of 2017. Naperville, IL, United States.

One Last Cast: Kankakee River Kayak Fishing: Surprise Walleye
http://onecast.blogspot.com/2014/07/kankakee-river-kayak-fishing-surprise.html
A journal of my fishing trips, mostly around the western suburbs of Chicago. Saturday, July 26, 2014. Kankakee River Kayak Fishing: Surprise Walleye. Rivers have finally fallen to more normal levels in the area so I went and kayaked a new river today, the Kankakee. I floated a little over 3 miles of the river from the eastern end of Kankakee River State Park. First walleye from the kayak. I kind of wished I had my stringer as I love eating walleye but the Kankakee probably needs as many mature walleye as...

Bassin' The Midwest: Get 'em shallow while it's HOT! (Shallow Squarebills)
http://bassinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2013/04/get-em-shallow-while-its-hot-shallow.html
Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Get 'em shallow while it's HOT! In the last few weeks I have found myself on a very HOT shallow squarebill bite. This style of fishing has become one of, if not my favorite techniques to take advantage of in the early spring months. Weeds are scarce, shallow shorelines are starting to warm up, and the bass are looking for food before they head to their spawning areas. What to have on hand to fish these lures effectively…. 7’ 0” MH Moderate to Moderate Fast action rod. Bass Pro ...

Some of you may know that my Dad and I have been planning a trip down to Falcon Lake in Texas for some time now.and I am sad to say that it came and went way too fast! If I could some up the trip in one word it would be IN-FREAKIN-CREDIBLE! The size and power of these giant Florida strain bass are just unbelievable. Three days we were out there with guide Jay Greishaw of www.highstakesbassin.com. Top 5 lost fish.estimated by Jay.

Bassin' The Midwest: November 2012
http://bassinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 12, 2012. Open water season is officially over for me this year, but not without one last weekend of unseasonable fall weather. This was roughly the same time last year when I hung up the rods to prepare for hard water, so I was hoping for similar results. The weather settled in the low 60's which was warmer than I expected, and there was rain in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday. On days like that I look for several key things. The last thing I look for is baitfish. Bass boiling...

Bassin' The Midwest: March 2013
http://bassinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 18, 2013. How to set up and cast a new baitcaster. Fishing sales are in full swing up here.and I know a few of you probably have been toying with the idea of picking up a new reel for this season.maybe a baitcaster? Baitcasters simply put can be very intimidating to the weekend angler.they are hard to cast.they definitely aren't spinning reels.and the ultimate fear of the dreaded "birds nest".dum dum dummmm! If you are just starting out I would recommend practicing with a cheap monofilament...
