The long (really long) walk. As we prepare for the South Island, I’m hopeful that I will experience many more of these breathtaking moments. Starting with off with a leisurely stroll along the Queen Charlotte made me skeptical. Beautiful as it was, it lacked the challenge I had been promised by the other walkers. The long (really long) walk. The Ups and Downs of the Mahoe forest. While it may seem that I always choose to write about the frustrations I have with the trail, I can assure you that I have enjoyed walking many beautiful trails so far. The fact is however, that they don’t make very good stories and without the proper cable I can’t put photos on my blog (sorting this out). We collapsed after 15k which is incredibly frustrating for someone who usually hikes 30k-35k per day. January 12, 2013 at 3:14 pm.

The long (really long) walk. I’ve been wearing a merino wool T-shirt while tramping for the past 2 months. I don’t carry anything other than the clothes I wear and after almost 1500km, I thought it was time for a new shirt. Merino gets holes in it quite easily but even after 2 months of wearing it with a heavy backpack non stop, I’ve been impressed. I also doubt that cotton would do much better although it might take a bit longer for the holes to form in the first place. January 30, 2013 at 11:53 pm.
