Lake Lou Yeager near Litchfield, Il is a great place to ride if you like steep verticals and wide open woodlands. There are plenty of creek beds, most of them dry this year. This is about as steep as you can get in central Illinois. The trail head is pretty sparse, they have a porta-potty for the summer months, and there is water for the horses and some picnic tables, there are no ties so it's high lines or trailer ties only. Jubilee College State Park, Peoria Il. Jubilee is west of Peoria just off I74, take exit 82 (Kickapoo-Edwards Road) continue to US-150 (Main street), turn west, turn north on North Princeville Jubilee Road. Take this road past the normal Jubilee exit, the horse area is in the extreme north of the park. Continue on N Princeville Jubilee Road until you reach West Brimfield Jubilee Road, turn west. Wolf Creek State Park, Shelbyville Il. This park is only maintained by volunteers so keep it clean. The map below is fairly accurate but the trails change and there are plenty of outlaw trails that arent marked. View of the bathrooms. View of the bathrooms in the primitive area. Greensfelder Park, St. Louis County, Mo. Greensfelder is just north of Six Flags outside of St. Louis, Mo. The town is called Eureka. Take the Six Flags exit and go straight on Allentown Road, it winds around for a bit, pass up the first Scenic Loop Road and you will see the campground just off the second Scenic Loop Road turn. Sand Ridge State Forest, Forest City Il (South West of Peoria). This is a good place to ride during a wet season, the ground is very sandy and almost never is washed out. Nice and gentle on the horses feet, no need for shoes/boots here. There is a large day parking area in a meadow, with plenty of campfire rings and barbeque pits, as well as poles to tie up your horses. You may want to bringe your own rope, there are no cross beams on the ties.

Sand Creek Conservation Area, Elwin Il. Just south of Decatur Illinois. Take business 51, just south of Decatur, the village is called Elwin. Take County Highway 30 (E Elwin Rd) East. The tie up area, no overnights here, but they have lots of picnic tables and barbecues. Spacious and easy parking, easy access to bathrooms and water. Meadows are nice, lots of birds for watchers, and hawks. Meadows for running, with nice spacious roads. Meadows transition to open woodlands.
