My captivating story…. February 11, 2015. February 13, 2015. Isabella, a clergyman’s daughter, travelled to the American ‘Wild West’ in 1873. She had some amazing adventures, including climbing mountains and rounding up cattle with her one-eyed friend, Rocky Mountain Jim. Telling the story – session. February 13, 2015. We told a story. Mine was about my love of growing things and my joy at acquiring an allotment. We discussed how stories could be used to introduce new topics or concepts. I liked the idea of presenting students with words and phrases – asking them to make a story or presenting students with a story and asking them to consider what else they would like to know and to consider the meanings and implications. Hand outs or power point slides with lots of writing on – students are immediately put off, or start reading them when you want them to engage in other activities. Pins – lovely and colourful, but not practical. They roll around, fall on the floor or prick fingers. Post it notes or Socrative are a better way of sticking ideas on the wall. Sybil Why would you?
